I love how you write about the Bazhir! You're really teasing out the nuances the books missed, and I really delight in reading your stuff.

I love how you write about the Bazhir! You're really teasing out the nuances the books missed, and I really delight in reading your stuff. Thank you so much for commenting! I really enjoy writing about the Bazhir, and I always feel like there is more to explore with the Bazhir culture no matter how much I write, so I'm so happy to hear that you love how I write about them. One of the aspects of Woman Who Rides Like a Man that made me uncomfortable was how Alanna and Jon basically just became Bazhir through blood rites. Alanna in particular didn't seem to have that much interest in or respect for Bazhir culture so that was truly problematic for me. Jon did genuinely try to understand the Bazhir (I don't think he fully succeeded but I think he at least made an honest effort in a way Alanna didn't)but I think it would have been so much better if he came to respect the Bazhir and earned their respect in return but didn't become a Bazhir and the Voice. So that always makes me wonder if every Bazhir would truly see Jon and Alanna as one of them. Those are the sort of complexities and nuances that I like to think fanfic provides the perfect chance to delve into so I'm glad that you like reading about those aspects.
