There was, Lianne thought as she lay dying, a fearful symmetry to the fact that she had held Jon in the beginning, and now he would hold her in the end.

Poor Lianne In some ways, I think she had a hard and unhappy life, but at least she always knew she had the love of her family.

Poor Lianne In some ways, I think she had a hard and unhappy life, but at least she always knew she had the love of her family. Thanks so much for commenting. Lianne is a character I feel an incredible amount of sympathy for given her fertility struggles, miscarriages, and nephew who tried to kill her, so I do agree that in some ways she definitely had a hard, unhappy life. I do love how sweet she seems to stay despite her difficulties, and I think you are right that she can always rely on the love of her family. Her relationships with Jon, Roald, and Gareth always felt very touching and believable to me.
