Our book for June is: Street Magic
Blurb: The young mages of the circle are coming into their powers - it's time to pass on what they've learned...
Briar is a plant mage - he can distil medicines, grow a garden in the blink of an eye and persuade a tree to trap a criminal. Learning how to channel your power is vital. Briar's empathy with nature can heal - but it could kill just as easily.
Evvy is just a street rat. She doesn't even know she has stone magic, let alone how to control it - and she doesn't want to learn anything. Why should she care if people get hurt? None of them has ever cared about her...
What do you make of Briar and Evvy's friendship? Did you like Evvy?

Just reread this book since its one of my recent acquisitions. I love Evvy. To me, she's so clever and eager to learn with the right amount of sweetness and innocence under her fierceness, wariness, and street smarts. I also like her relationship with Briar more than I like Sandry's with Pasco's. Somehow Briar just strikes me as a more natural teacher than Sandry does, especially when he does things like teach Evvy how to read with stones he bought for her. (I thought it was so precious when she hugged him for getting those stones.)
The relationship between Briar and Rosethorn continues to be awesome, maybe because they are both prone to sarcasm, ha ha.
I also really like the setting of this book. Really reminded me of a fantasy version of India. The gang plot was also quite interesting and complex.
