Welcome to month two of the Emelan Read-a-long, where we are featuring The Power in the Storm/Tris's Book!
After the exciting events of the last book and the weaving of their magic together, our awesome foursome are now closer and stronger than they were before. Which is lucky, because a new threat is facing Winding Circle and Summersea...pirates!

I really love this book - I felt like all the relationships are developing, and it was nice to focus on Tris. Didn't love the pirates, didn't love her cousin's involvement, but did love the fab four!

This was the first ever Tammy book I read, so I have a huuuge soft spot for both it and Tris. I love Tris's weather magic and, now that all the awkward introductions and bonding is out of the way, I like how the relationships develop and the magic is further explored.
I don't like Aymery's decisions and how he treats Tris, but I still find the scene where he dies very sad, mostly because of Tris's reaction, but also because of how pointless it all was.
I so desperately wanted to be Tris when I was younger...weather magic, red hair, not afraid to tell people off who annoyed her... I think sometimes I would still like to be Tris!

Hope I’m still allowed to chime in! This didn’t quite have the pastoral appeal of the first book for me - there was the outside intrusion of the pirates. I mostly enjoyed Power in the Storm for its introduction of gunpowder/new tech and.... you know, it’s a fun read. Also, Gorse Like most of us, I’m a Tris fan, so I liked the focus on her and her weather magic (as awful as it would be to have IRL, *reading* about characters having it is awesome). Don’t have much to say about this one - I enjoyed it and it’s a solid addition to/progression from MitW.

Yet another of my recent purchases and re-reads after a long absence from Emelan so again I hope nobody mines if I pitch in with my thoughts!
The pirate plot provided a stronger structure for me than the first book in this series had in my opinion. It was neat to see Tris interact with a family member though I did know from the moment I met him that her relative would turn out to be in league with the pirates based on the voices Tris had heard with her magic. I also thought we saw more of the different student and teacher bonds in this story (while last book was more focused on the students building a bond with one another). The bonds between Tris and Niko and between Daja and Frostpine particularly resonated with me.
