Series: A Pale View of Hills Title: Precedent Rating: G Event: 110 Word Hurdles Competition: Decathlon Words: 110 words Summary: A Sergeant and a Watch Commander have Words about admitting a hillman into the Dogs.
-
“…It’s unprecedented,” said Sergeant Henric, very slowly.
“He’s passed the qualifications,” came the dry reply. “Surprising for a hillman, I must admit, but if you haven’t noticed, Sergeant, we’re not exactly swimming in candidates at the moment.”
“Commander,” replied Henric, exasperated. “They aren’t even a part of the kingdom! And we’ve been fighting these wretched barbarians along the border for the past decade or so. Begging your pardon sir, but Dog work is for loyal servants of the Realm, not unpredictable, stubborn scum that’s happy to bite the hand that feeds it.”
Unfazed, Sir Lorren said, “Then this should be an interesting experiment. Admit him, Sergeant. You have your orders.”
