Brainstorm for Harlequin here!

I think I'm going to try and write a few blurbs at least, since I can find plenty of inspiration at work - I always giggle over the dramatic titles of the Mills&Boon books I see.
I need to start figuring out which romance tropes I want to use for fics too!

I've got a half-written fic that I'll to pick up again and and finish. What's already done needs a good prune first, but the tropes are definitely there and it even features an actual romance novel!

I haven't read many romance novels, so I'll probably be taking my inspiration from TV Tropes and Janet Evanovich's excellent body of work. I'm a little tempted to write a Neal/Uline romance reversal, with Neal in the role typically associated with the heroine.

So I'm browsing Tvtropes and am thinking of using The Bet, which happens to be the trope in what is possibly my favourite rom com: Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie. My instinct is to write for Briar/Sandry, but sometimes I feel like there can be too much of a good thing ( ) so perhaps I need to consider another pairing...

I'm rereading Lady Knight and am unexpectedly falling in love with Kel/Merric, so I might write something for them if I can find the time. But if anyone else wants to try, what abot Kel/Merric + Cannot Spit It Out?

wordy: Raoul/anyone* and Man in a Kilt. *If you want a specific pairing, Raoul/Buri. And if that doesn't tickle your fancy, Raoul/Gary.

I want them ALL. Kel/Lerant fits into a lot of tropes. Especially Slap Slap Kiss. Just throwing that out there.

I rarely read and even more rarely write romance, so I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas. Thank goodness for this thread and everyone's great suggestions thus far!
Part of me is tempted to write some more Niko/Crane, but I'm not sure I could be totally ridiculous with them. What's a really ridiculous pairing?

I feel like Rosto as a character has the flamboyance to pull off so many cliche grand romantic gestures and embarrass the heck out of Beka. Ladykiller in love could be interesting maybe for Jon/Thayet or Jon/Alanna, Gary/Cythera, Roger/someone or even Kel/Dom xD....although what would be funnier would be any of the above mentioned males as a Casanova wannabe Compete for the maiden's hand lots of possibilities there, I feel like it would be cool to have a heroine masquerading as a guy to compete for the hand of a maiden and then winning, then shocking everyone with the fact it is the maiden's secret love, a girl. Possible - Buri/Thayet, Kel/Lalasa, Kally/someone (but Kally better be the one doing to duelling), Sarai/someone, Alanna/someone

Rn I'm entertained more by the prospect of the language itself than plot devices. Because. All that unnecessary attention to physical appearance and overuse of adjectives.
Also in terms of the ridiculousness factor -- what I find ridiculous about harlequin novels, which can also be said for a lot of bad fanfiction, is that they strive to make their lead characters perfect, and that's what can make them ludicrous. The ideal(ised), rugged manly man who's never had a proper lover until he's won over by the woman who's assumed she's a plain jane all her life but is actually a total bombshell. The ideal(ised), smooth-talking, powerful businessman who meets his match in the dignified, clever woman who refuses to have him even though there are so many sparks flying~ it could be Guy Fawkes. The ingenue, who's overwhelmed by the advances.
The overemphasis in pursuit of archetypal (trope) perfection becomes hammy, and that makes them farcical.
So. My open challenge is: harlequinify your OTP. Because even perfectly respectable ships can be made cringeworthy with just a few, overly accurate adjectives. And the use of the word 'hunger'.
Bonus points if you describe eyes as 'orbs'.

I'm trying to emulate romance blurbs but the language they use is so over the top! I'll have to keep trying... Anyone else going to write some blurbs? They're much quicker and easier than fic.

I have one blurb planned, but I'm planning on indulging myself and writing fic. There's so few occasions to actually exercise the purple prose and go wild on descriptions, like Max said.

I've almost finished one fic and plan to write a few more. The trouble I have is that I get really impatient and want to post fics now rather than finish them properly.

I am definitely going to try for a blurb - I really want to write something, but I'm not convinced I'll finish a fic.

I think I might try to do a blurb or two, I want to write something but I am pretty swamped with school I doubt I could do a fic justice.

Okay I have a request that I only just realised is something that totally needs to be written this week.
Can someone please do an overly dramatic version of Sarai and Zaimid deciding to elope, with maybe a short follow up of them being on a boat, or in Carthak or something.
I just always picture them as such hopeless romantics (well Sarai at least) and I feel like dramatics and purple prosed for that scene would be both hilarious and perfect.
