Title: 'Tis the season
Rating: G
Prompt: #98 Mistletoe
Summary: A sleepover during the holidays.
The house was quiet. Glaki had been curled up in her borrowed bed for what felt like hours, trying to breathe just as quietly; resigned to the fact that sleep would not be coming, she let her toes meet the cold floor and crept downstairs. A cup of warmed milk might be what she needed.
Halfway to the cold-box, a shadow caught the corner of her eye and she froze. Then, blinking slowly, she realised that the shadow was not a thief in the night, but a figure she recognised.
"What are you doing?" she whispered, padding soft-footed over to the front door where Briar stood.
He did not startle. There was greenery in his careful hands; he was tying it above the doorway. Only when he was finished did he lower his hands and rest them on his hips, a satisfied smile barely visible in the darkness.
She poked him in the side. "Briar."
He grinned down at her. "Just getting things ready for tomorrow," he said. "You never know when a lucky girl might need to get kissed."
Glaki thought of Briar's slobbering kisses (they were almost as bad as Little Bear's!) and made a face. He laughed quietly and reached down to tweak her nose.
He disappeared back to his room without another word, leaving her to stare up at the mistletoe. She wasn't sure why it made people want to kiss each other, but they always seemed happy about it. It was just a few leaves, really.
It was a puzzle that could wait, she decided, and went to fetch her cup of milk.
