Title: Companion Rating: G Prompt: #92 Adjustments Summary: With all that Alanna has gained, it doesn't even out the losses.
Her grief fades over the years, as it had with Thom, and the Dragon, and every other number of hurts she picked up. But the Swoop is lively with children underfoot and people hurrying about their business; it reminds her so suddenly of living at the palace, of her years in training, that what follows is too quick to put her finger on.
It isn't until she's tripping over her feet for no reason that she realises who she's been looking for. There are raggedy cats about the buildings --- mouse-catchers -- but none of them have the same sleek coat and sharp-pricked ears. They don't wake her with their purring (they aren't allowed in the bedchambers at all) and leave her pressing a hand to her chest when the only noise is George's snoring, nothing more.
In life, Faithful had haunted her steps; he had kept her safe, kept a clear head when she couldn't. In death, he haunts her thoughts.

Aww, this is so simply done, which makes it even sadder and sweeter. Poor Alanna

I like the line about tripping over her own feet, even after so long without Faithful.

I loved this. You had really emotional descriptions all through, that were beautifully worded while bringing me into the story.
