Title: Disguise
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: Disguise, #15
Summary: The case is closing a net around them.
Series: 7 Per Scent
Set: B
Warnings: Drug use.
Notes: This is based on ACD's Sherlock Holmes short stories and books, and the BBC TV show Sherlock. I don't own anything.
A sharp knock brought us to the front room. "Who is it?" I called.
"Claw Moran," a gruff voice answered.
I raised my eyebrows at Alex, motioning to him not to answer.
"No," he whispered. "It's probably important." He put his hand on the doorknob.
"What if it's not him?" I said frantically.
"Then we'll have deal with it soon anyway," he hissed, and kicked open the door.
The man never took off his hood. Coward, I thought, and growled under my breath.
"Why are you here?" Alex said coolly.
It seemed as if Claw smiled. "Myles sent me to tell you that you won't be able to get to Joren unless you buy yourself some poppy."
My friend blanched. "I should have known he would be involved in this. And now he wants to frame me… as Joren walks away Scot-free."
"Quick," Claw said gleefully. "You got his plan."
I was bewildered and nervous, but I had to get rid of this secondary scum first. "Now leave," I ordered, flicking my boot in the direction of the snow. "Or I'll get Inspector Ironarm."
"You will, will you? G'night then, I don't have the strength this time of night to deal with the Shang Dragon."
"More like you don't have strength for it any time of night," I grumbled at his retreating back.
As soon as he was gone, I grabbed Alex's coat. "What do you mean he wants to frame you? And what does this have to do with poppy?"
He collapsed in a chair wearily. "The only way I can arrest Joren is if I buy the drug, and that's if I'm not already in prison for obtaining it."
"The scheming murderer! But I'm sure you can explain the situation to the Provost." I passed him a glass of wine; it trembled and almost spilled onto the carpet.
"He won't listen to me. I was already suspected for allying with the Scanrans twice."
"What will we do then?"
"Go."
