Title: Minor Rating: PG Prompt: Minore, #32 Theme: Understated Genius Series: Instrumental Summary: The king tries to let Maude know how he feels.
'Dear Maude,' the king began. His quill screeched over the page in absentminded frustration. What was he going to tell this woman, this beautiful woman, that he had just met three hours ago? Surely fancy language wouldn't move her, she was too warm-hearted for that. Sweat broke out on the bridge of his nose. "Sir Corntree?" His voice rang out with surprising gravity. A man came running up to the king's bowed form, his eyes soft with concern. "Is there anything you need, Sire?" "Yes," the king said, desolate, "Please. I require a piece of music, for tonight. A lovely, delicate… yes. Letters aren't working." "For a woman?" Corntree said, adjusting his glasses. The king sighed, Corntree was suggesting the obvious. "I think you know the answer to that. But it's urgent. It's what you do best, so please, go do it." Corntree bowed. "I need to know more about her, Sire," he said quietly. "Is she glaringly beautiful; do her eyes run with kohl? Is she neat and prim with her hair all assembled? Does she love passionately, does she love at all?" The king paused, eyes heavy. "I don't know if she loves me. Leave it open. But no, she is the perfect harmony of subtlety and spirit. She is not high on her horse; she loves each thing equally. If she rejects me I have been completely deluded for these tedious hours."
Corntree left his king to think and feel and wonder, and started off for the music room, his favourite room in all the palace.
