Title: In A Strange Land Rating: PG Word Count: 247 Crossover: Tortall/Emelan Summary (and any Warnings): Some things don’t discriminate. Notes: This pairing is something I need more of, I think!
Tris had thought she had grown used to seeing horrors. Niko would have scolded her for such a thought; clearly, she wasn’t as wise as she wished to believe.
“Do you ever get used to it?” she asked the Duke, her voice low so as not to disturb the rows of wounded sleeping fitfully in the makeshift hospital. Night horrors, those she had definitely thought she was used to, having listened to Briar’s for so long. But no war was ever the same, no matter how foul or bloody or dirty; she realised now that she would never truly grow accustomed to hearing grown men and women cry out at night, reliving the terrors they had faced.
With a sigh, Duke Baird sat back and rubbed a hand over his face. He looked tired. The smile he gave her was weak. “I’m afraid you do get used to it. Though that doesn’t stop it being horrible, every time.”
It was not comforting in the least. If I’d wanted to stay wrapped up in cotton wool, she scolded herself, then I would have stayed at the university in Corus.
That night, Tris slept fitfully, as she had every night since volounteering at the hospital. Her hip ached, but this time it was not a bothersome reminder that she was far from home and family; her hip would ache wherever she went to bed at night—Tortall or Emelan—and war paid no mind to land or borders either.

Interesting! I like how you chose the healing as the link between the worlds for her. Great writing on both characters, and I liked how you included mention of Briar.
