Summary: Neal and Yuki exchange letters(that may or may not include some bad poetry).
Yuki - my love,
Oh, how I miss you so. My heart aches with the distance. If I could be there to hold you in my arms tonight it would be too late. I know not how you can stand this - this separation. I think of you always. You are my first thought in the morning, and my last thought at night. I have written you a poem to show this to you.
I call it Ode to Your Eye Brows. It is simply a fragment - a mere token of my love for you as if the written word could ever truly express my feelings for you. Trust that all is well here. I can hope to be home safe with you soon. How I hate saying that. There is so much that could go wrong, and soon can in no way be soon enough. Let us not, however, think of that.
Yours Always, Love,
Neal
P.S. I kissed the page right under I signed it. If you place your lips there, then it shall be as though we were able to kiss.

My Dearest Nealan,
Thank you so much for the lovely ode to my eye brows. I must apologize that I did not fully understand it. I asked Lady Keladry and the Princess Shinkokami to help me. The Princess did not understand it either, but Kel claimed to be able to make sense of it. What she said wasn’t very nice, however, so I don’t think she really did know what you were trying to say.
I may not truly understand the form of your poetry, but I know what you were trying to say. You have inspired me to send you my own poetry. I just hope that the form holds up in translation.
My lovely Neal, I do hope that was okay. Your poetry is so different from what we would write at home. I have lived here for how long, and I still fail to understand the intricacies of your ways. I am trying though. I believe you know that. Easterners are much more open with emotion than is considered acceptable in the Yamani Islands, but since I am no longer a Yamani I can write things like this without shame.
I really do love you. You do know that right? Please come home safe. The fief feels empty without you, itoshigo. Perhaps I should see if Princess Shinkokami could speak with the Majesties about lessening your load a bit. I know Queenscove must do its duty to the throne, but perhaps you could do your duty in Corus. There is no reason for the Chief Palace Healer to be on the front lines. I miss you. We all do. You should see Hana. She is getting so bit. Yesterday she toddled out carrying a stick pretending it was a naginata. You should see her with her Aunt Kel. I shudder to think that it won’t be too long before she wants to do her duty to the throne. She misses her father. I miss you too. Please come home soon.
With love always,
Yukimi of Queenscove

Yuki, darling,
I love you so much. I could spent all day staring at you letter and imagining you as you wrote it. Your poetry was lovely. One would think that I fell in love with your ability to manipulate the written word. I miss you too, so much that it hurts. I watch over you every night, but it is not the same as being there with you. Have faith though - I received a message today. I should be able to leave next month. Sadly, this is one more month too long, for I yearn to feel you next to me again. Until such point as that can occur, you will remain constant on my mind.
Many hugs and kisses from me to you.
Your loving husband,
Neal
P.S. The world feels dark and lonely without you by my side, but I know that it soon to end. My very existence aches for you to be by my side. I shall count the seconds until this it true.
******************************************************
Dearest Nealan,
I look forward to your arrival. It has been too long since I have seen you, but please worry about things other than counting the seconds. You have more important things to worry about like the health of those around you. I would never forgive myself if something catastrophic were to happen and you were counting the time until we could be together.
Love always,
Yukimi

As dark as a raven’s wing
Standing against the peerless queen
Highlighting a gorgeous eye
Reflecting the constant sky
Fine as feather
Yet constantly teather’d
A shade of black so nearly brown
Is of your eye the brow
It anchors your face
Your forehead as silky as lace
The hairs to many to count
Gently shaped like a mount
Black as the night
Like an eagle in flight
It will always stand out in a crowd
Your gorgeous eye brow

Slowly, gracefully
Like a rose newly in bloom
Such are you and me
Like the moon at night
Rising above the city
Waxing and waning
Gracefully you rise
Like the first leaves of Spring
Unfurling open
As a cloud floats by
Building itself out of air
Many Times Forming
As a leaf becomes
Tree stretching sky and life
I know you are with me
When first morning bird
Cries out with morning hunger
I know you are there
As each cricket chirps
The day comes to final end
I know you are there
Like the moon and sun
Constant and true always there
Is the love we share
As frog calls at night
Rhythmically constant and true
My heart beats for you
Your hands on my skin
Gentle as dragonfly wings
Taken aback by flight
When I am with you
Whether day or night be true
My eyes smile too
Mine the color of night
Like yours the color of grass
Sparks set my world alight
Your silky red lips
Ignite my lover’s bliss
Swelled from your kiss
I gave you my fan
For my heart you already had
Without you I die
When you are not here
When your duty sends you away
I ache from the loss
As an open rose
Withered from an early frost
I am without you
The night to my day
The other half of myself
You always shall stay
You there at my side
Always sets my heart aflutter
For I do love you
