Title: Understanding Rating: PG Character: Lianne II Event: AU pole vault. Words: 215 Summary: Lianne has a question for her father.
“Father, I was in the portrait gallery today.”
He looked up from his work, offering his attention. “Were you now?”
“Yes, you see, I was looking at the family portraits and I was just wondering-“
He sighed and turned back to his papers. A circuitous speech was a sure way to lose his interest - and his respect.
Be direct, Lianne. She cleared her throat. “I was named for Queen Lianne. And of course, Roald is named for the old king.”
“I am aware of that. Or have you forgotten it was I who named you?”
“Roald and Lianne were your family. You knew them well. And yet you have named Jasson after your grandfather who you scarcely remember.”
He raised a dark eyebrow, curiosity in his sapphire eyes; so like her own. “Your point, my dear?”
“Why was he not named for your cousin?” She gave him stare for stare, lasting him out as none of his other children did. He said she was his equal. He said that’s why she was the favourite.
“I would not wish that name on any of my children.” His lips pulled into a slow smile. “However, if you are so determined to have him remembered, I shall get you a dog, and we can call him Jonathan.”

Thank you so much, I'm really glad you liked this one. I’ve scrapped several stories because Lianne was becoming too Roger-ish, so I was excited to write one where she was allowed to be!

Wow, this is an awesome AU! I would absolutely love to see you explore this further! I'm so intrigued by what has transpired to get to this point.
And that very last bit of his dialogue was truly, amazingly chilling.
