Title: Lethe Rating: G Couple/Character: Gainel Event: 100 word dash Words: 100 Summary: Gainel ponders! (That's about it. These little drabbles could be summaries in and of themselves.) *** Being the Dream King, Gainel was used to solitude. The Great Gods did well by him, but mortals were usually disconcerted by his presence. Some feared him, while others merely scoffed at his power- until he sent along a nightmare to nudge them into some semblance of respect. Compared to the other gods, he considered himself no less powerful, although crippled in aspects they obviously possessed. He smiled his secretive, gentle smile, amused because being unable to speak to mortals in the normal way had forced him to become more... inventive. Creativity was not the strongest suit of many gods.

Oh, Gainel is my favorite god, so I'm glad someone is writing about him. I'm looking forward to reading the next ones, too!

Oh, I'm so glad. He's my favorite god too. I was lucky enough to meet Tamora Pierce about two years ago (at a tiny mom and pop bookshop down my street, no less) and I asked her about her inspiration. She said Gainel was her fangirl tribute to Neil Gaiman and I just about wet my pants over that! Neil Gaiman is my favorite author of all time.

I like that this offers insight into how Gainel began to "speak" to mortals in dreams - it's so interesting!

So happy you're doing Gainel!! Very interesting take on him, and I like how he turns his seeming limitations into opportunities for creativity and power in a way unusual to gods. I like the dichotomy of his gentle smile and his unusual power, especially when he's sending people nightmares!

I'm so excited you're doing Gainel! This is a great exploration of him, and I particularly like the last line. In some ways it makes him closer to humans than other gods, and I think you've capture that really well.

Ooh, this is really interesting! I like the idea that Gainel is by nature more creative than most of the gods orecisely because of the stuff he works with, which is inherently unknowable and unpredictable, but also that his inability to speak to mortals made him more inventive with the dreams to begin with
