Cleaning up after an experiment proved to provide extra problems. Clary hadn’t thought anything wrong could come out of merely washing the burette and the volumetric flasks Mattes had used. Mattes had proved her wrong. Clary had barely cried out a warning – “Look out!” – before a spurt of water from the highly-pressurised faucet had knocked the flask clean out of Mattes’s soapy (and therefore slippery) fingers.
She winced, expecting to hear the clink of shattering glassware – except that nothing about Mattes’s experiments generally conformed to Clary’s standards of ‘normal’. The flask dropped, and landed right on its bottom – and bounced – before coming to a stop.
Clary stared.
Mattes went over and picked it up, holding it up to the light to check for any cracks or flaws in the glass inflicted by its fall. “Well,” he said eventually, his expression as neutral as he could manage, though a grin threatened to break through, “It’s fine. Absolutely fine.”
“Give it over,” Clary ordered, and then took it from Mattes’s unresisting fingers and checked it himself. There was nothing at all. No damage inflicted from the little bounce and drop the flask had taken. “God,” she breathed.
“That,” Mattes said smugly, “Is what I’m talking about.”

Hee! I'm glad that things have gone his way for once, and it's fun to see Clary so flabbergasted!
