Title: Gardens
Rating: PG
Word Count: 503
Pairing: Kalasin/Wyldon
Round/Fight: 1/C
Summary: Kalasin decided to relive her youth and brings Wyldon with her.
-
Kalasin followed Lord Cavall to the garden with the simple intention of asking after his well-being. He saved her life after all; it was only polite to inquire. She hadn’t expected to find him despondent and tired, slumped back on a lonely garden bench.
Moments like these made her heart ache. Children always wished to be adults, but now that she had a crown of her own, Kalasin wanted nothing more than to be a little girl with the strong hero there to protect her. Heroes weren’t supposed to have regrets.
She remembered the day he saved her clearly, even now. Lord Wyldon was a good sport when the royal children needled him into playing hide-and-seek; he’d simply been the nearest knight they could ask. He’d denied them firmly, but there had been a glint to his eye, she remembered, that said otherwise. They’d all scattered and he followed after, demanding they return to the nursery. He was never cross, never cruel, and when he caught them, one-by-one, he piled them on his strong shoulders and carried them back to their nurse.
Kalasin giggled at the memory and Wyldon’s head snapped up. “Who’s there?”
She pulled back behind the hedge, planning to return to the party, but his eyes sharpened and he prowled forward with the burning confidence she remembered. He looked just like that day.
Why couldn’t they relive it, just for a little while?
High on her own ridiculous notions, Kally giggled again and took off through the gardens. Heavy footfalls followed her and she laughed. He was gaining, but she refused to be caught so easily. Pulling the pin from her hair, Kally wrapped up her skirt and wedged the butterfly into the knot so she could stretch her legs and run.
She listened carefully, using her familiarity with the gardens to her advantage. Whenever his feet slowed, Kally would giggle just loud enough he could follow her again before she disappeared around the corner.
Finally, he began closing in. Desperate to win, Kally eyed the ornate trellis to her left. She was never much of a horiculturalist, but considering the Carthaki taste, those blooms were probably worth at least as much as her favorite earrings.
Luckily, she understood sacrifices must be mad to achieve victory. Kally kicked off her shoes and scaled the trellis quickly, keeping her head down in hopes he wouldn’t see her. Unfortunately, the pin in her skirt decided to fall free halfway over the top and Kally’s foot slipped on the smooth cloth and she tumbled to the ground with a yelp.
Instead of hard stone, Kalasin landed in a pair of strong arms. Wyldon grunted at the impact and his disapproving frown was so utterly ridiculous, she couldn’t help herself any longer. Kalasin pressed her lips together mirthfully and broke down into hysterical giggles, dissolving to a full-belly laugh when Lord Cavall blanched.
Then, beautifully, he began to chuckle. “I see you’re still finding trouble, your Eminence.”
Kalasin beamed pertly. “Only when you’re here to save me.”
