Title: We’ll Never Get Along, OK? Rating: PG Word Count: 183 Pairing: Neal/Owen Fight: 1/E Summary: The University boys and the pages don’t get along. Note: Inspired by the Roger and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! song The Farmer and the Cowman Should Be Friends. (Lyrics excluded from word count)
The farmer and the cowman should be friends! Oh, the farmer and the cowman should be friends! One man likes to push a plow, another likes to chase a cow, But that’s no reason why they can’t be friends!
“You said you’d take me if there was going to be a fight,” Owen complained.
“I didn’t know there would be a fight,” Neal said weakly, “And this wasn’t the sort of fight I said Kel and I would take you to. I wasn’t fighting bullies, I just got beat up by a few university boys.” He sat down on a chair, moaning.
“University boys?” Owen resisted the urge to giggle. “How did you get into a fight?”
Neal shrugged. “They called me a few names; ‘stupid’ mainly, since I dropped out of the University. I couldn’t take it without throwing a punch. There were just too many of them, though. Was it five? Six?” He looked up at Owen. “You would have done the same thing.”
“Perhaps,” Owen mused. “I don’t understand why we can’t all just get along! So what if we’re going to be knights and they’ll be scholars? We all want the best for Tortall!”
Neal smiled. “You are such a hopeful. It will never be like that, but it’s okay. Throwing punches here and there is always fun.”

I love Owen’s optimism in this. I just want to give him a big cuddle!

“I don’t understand why we can’t all just get along!" ^Hehe this line reminded me of that line from Mean Girls
