Title: Spy Talk Rating: PG Word Count: 199 words Pairing: Neal/Owen Round/Fight: 1/E Summary: Owen comes to Neal for advice
--
“Have you ever thought of - of not being a knight?” Owen asked tentatively.
Neal threw him an amused look, but returned his attention to his book. “What would you have me be instead? Bartender? Dancing bear?”
Owen kicked at Neal as he sat down - or maybe his foot really had just slipped. “Myles came to me. Said he’d be willing to train me. He said it might be an idea to ask you, and then said he’d said too much by accident. Only, I don’t think Myles says anything by accident.”
Neal pulled a face, not liking Myles’s ways of applying pressure. “Myles thinks I’d be useful in the field. I’ve built up... contacts.”
“Could you do it? Be a spy?”
Neal glanced around at Owen, at his friend’s open, honest face, and sighed. “I wager I’d be better at it than you. Any country would see you coming a mile off.”
Owen nodded. “I knew that was why you’d been so secretive lately.”
An unpleasant thought occurred to Neal. “Myles hasn’t spoken to you at all, has he?”
Grinning, Owen shook his head. “You’re right. Any country would see me coming a mile off.”

ROFL. Owen is so much cleverer than Neal thinks. ;D

I love seeing Owen portrayed as bright as he should be. People often forget that he's bookish and clever - and just has the nasty habit of putting his foot in his mouth on occasion.

I love seeing Owen outwit Neal. And I can just imagine poor Neal’s face when he realises.
