His hands are ice-cold. Perhaps it is the tongue-to-the-flagpole effect because she is warm, heat welling inside of her and spreading to him.
Sometimes he touches her because he cannot believe she is real.
“It was such-”
“A risk. I know.” Her mouth turns downwards. “You don’t need to tell me any more.”
“Maybe you’ll get the point.” He punctuates the words with a fist to the bed frame, an unexpected outburst.
“I’m a knight. It’s what I do.” Her voice is a constant, quiet and soothing. “You were a knight once.”
“Once,” he mutters. “That is undeniable.”
She sighs, shifts under the covers. “I’m not going to stop doing what I do. You don’t need to worry.”
“And yet I will.” His voice is elegant, which is expected, and velvet-soft.
Kel closes her eyes, finding him in the mess of blankets. “Your hands are cold,” she whispers. “Come on. Let’s go to bed.”
