Title: An Essential Ingredient (Love and Necessity XI)
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 357
Pairing: Kel/Jon
Round/Fight: 1/F
Summary: Kel finds what she’s been waiting for.
A/N: Cliché? Perhaps. Worth it? Definitely.
Kel sighed, directing her horse into the stable at the end of another afternoon spent riding with Jon. He was still waiting to know if she had decided to go through with their arranged marriage, if she would be officially introduced as his fiancé, she knew, and she hated to keep him waiting so long – almost three weeks now – but she was waiting for something.
For what, she wasn’t sure.
No, that was a lie. She knew what she was waiting for. She was waiting to feel like there was fire in her veins, or one of the other clichés that you’re supposed to feel with someone you’re going to marry. She didn’t know if they were real or not, but she was waiting nonetheless, quite possibly for something that wouldn’t even happen.
She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn’t notice Peachblossom had walked past the block she usually dismounted on to, and when she slid off the tall horse the ground was farther away than she’d anticipated. Realizing her mistake too late, she tried to grab onto Peachblossom’s slippery back to no avail.
“Kel!” Jon’s voice rang out as he saw her fall, and she found herself being lowered to the ground by strong arms. Turning, she looked into his blue eyes, suddenly so close to her own, and felt her heart speed up.
“Are you alright?” It took Kel a moment to realize Jon had spoken to her.
“Oh yes – I’m fine. I was just distracted.”
Jon nodded, stepping back as it became clear to him that Kel wouldn’t have been hurt if she had fallen, just a little jostled, and that he’d probably overreacted in his eagerness to wrap his arms around her.
“Stefan will take care of Peachblossom – you should go back to your rooms and rest before dinner,” Jon told her, uncertain of what had just passed between them.
“Yes – yes, I will. Thank you.” Kel said. Rushing to her rooms, she sat down at the desk and penned a note:
Later, when Jon found the note on his desk, he couldn’t contain his huge grin.
