Title: Thrice Thought Rating: PG Wordcount: 229 Pairing: Jon/Kel Round: 3/A Summary: Kel lays eyes on her target.
-
Kel's memories of Tortall were dark and tinged with hurt; rejection and anger stewing for the better part of a decade had shaded her recollections rather greyer than they ought to be. From what she could observe as she left the ship, the country seemed to be wet and stank of fish. The nobles awaiting their delegation didn't seem much better, though maybe the fish smell was covered up somewhat by expensive pomade.
She wanted to turn to Haname and make a sly remark, but it wouldn't be appropriate. Kel bit down on her lip and bowed when appropriate, acknowledging her parents and brothers. Shinko seemed less nervous when she saw Ilane, though Kel knew she was longing to make a true impression of Roald. The prince, they were told, was in the north with his knight-master.
However, there was a surprise guest among the gathered Tortallans. King Jonathan sat astride a majestic horse, dark hair plastered to his forehead and neck. His royal regalia was dampened, but it didn't subtract from the effect.
He seemed bored, or distracted, turning his head this way and that as the requisite pleasantries were exchanged between Prince Eitaro and the Prime Minister. His horse, sensing his dissatisfaction, pawed the ground restlessly.
When his eyes met hers-- deep, blue, and a little bit smug-- Kel bit down hastily on her lip.
Jonathan smirked.
