"Sir, if Kel thinks they might lead us, maybe we should listen." Kel looked around, startled. Faleron had drawn closer while Sir Raoul had examined the spidren web.
"She's smart about a lot of things," added Merric, standing close to Neal. "Whatever some people say." Neal and Faleron nodded agreement when Lord Raoul looked at each of them.
-- Tamora Pierce, First Test

Lord Raoul smiled inwardly at the pages who were so intent on praising their female comrade, Keladry of Mindelan. Raoul knew of the skill and bravery of the knights from the House of Mindelan. Sir Inness and Sir Conal, as well as Sir Anders, who had retired from active military service due to injuries he sustained during the Immortals War, were all fine warriors. If young Keladry was anything like her older brothers, she truly deserved the adoration of her male peers. Raoul couldn't wait to tell Alanna about this interesting development.
The Knight Commander of the King's Own quickly assessed each of the younglings in front of him. There was Duke Baird's only remaining son, Nealan of Queenscove, who had surprised everyone at court when he abandoned his university training and became a page at the ripe old age of fifteen. He also recognized the Duke of King's Reach's third son, Faleron, whose dark and handsome features favored his mother's famed good looks. He didn't know the other youth, but by the look of his straight red hair and pale eyes, he'd hazard a guess that the lad's sire was Baron Kendric of Hollyrose.
Trusting his tactical instincts, Lord Raoul decided to give Page Keladry's birds a chance to assist in the spidren hunt. Glancing around the small assembly, Raoul had to force back a bark of laughter when he noticed the triumphant expressions on Neal, Faleron and Merric's faces. Whether or not she knew it, Keladry of Mindelan possessed a quite a devoted fan club.
