Word count: 518
Summary: Watch didn't go so well tonight.
Clary let the door slam behind her and instantly regretted it. “I’m sorry,” she called softly.
“I was half awake anyway.” A soft glow filled the cottage as Tom lit a candle. “I’ve got water heated for you if you want a bath.” He reached the bottom of the stairs and concern filled his eyes when he saw she was soaked through from the rain. “Love, you’re shivering.”
“I know.” She sighed. “A bath would be wonderful.”
Tom kissed her forehead. “I’ll make you some tea.”
The tea was finished just as Clary was stepping into the bath. Tom placed the tea within her reach and chuckled at her sigh of contentment as she sank into the warm water. “Gods, it feels good,” she said, and slid down until the water reached her chin.
“Want some help?”
Clary smiled up at him as he ran his fingers through her wet hair. “You should go to bed. I kept you up last night too, and you need to get up so sarden early.”
“I don’t mind it. Do you want me to cook you something?”
“We had a late supper. You should get back to bed, I’ll be there soon.”
Tom walked out of the room, and Clary frowned. She hadn’t expected him to stay – his job could be dangerous, and they both knew he needed his sleep – but it was strange that he would go back to bed without so much as a kiss or saying ‘goodnight’. “Tom?” There was no answer, so she sat up and called louder. “Tom!” He reappeared in the doorway, confusion on his face at her agitation.
“I’m sorry,” she blurted out. “I know I’m not good company tonight, and I didn’t mean to snap at you and make you angry.”
Tom gave her an odd look. “You didn’t.” He held up her nightdress. “I was just fetching this to warm it by the fire.
“Oh. That’s alright, then.” Tom chuckled as she sank back into the warm water. “Tom?”
“Mmm?”
“I love you. I know I get distracted and well, in a foul mood sometimes, and I don’t tell you as often as I should, but I do love you, and I really appreciate it when you take care of me after I’ve had a rough day. And you’re always so patient and understanding and I know I don’t deserve you, but –“
“Hush.” She quieted in surprise and he smoothed her hair away from her face. “You’re about to bring up Port Caynn again, and we agreed you wouldn’t do that, remember?” He waited for her to nod before he leaned over the tub and kissed her. “I love you too,” he told her. “Always.” He smiled at her and gently ran his thumb over her cheek. “Now, I’m off to bed like my lovely wife ordered, but what I really want on a cold, rainy night like this is a nice, warm woman to snuggle up to.”
Clary laughed and gave him a small shove to get him moving. “She’ll be up in a moment.”
