Books We'd Like to See
by Lisa and Rosie
One topic of conversation on Goldenlake was the notion of what books various members would like to see Tamora Pierce write in the future. The consensus was that everyone wanted more of something we’ve received glimpses of in the past.
After Mastiff is complete, a book on Clary Goodwin’s earlier years was suggested. Perhaps it would tell of the period she dedicated herself to the Goddess, and the struggles that led her there. Or maybe a story about her puppy years would be preferred.
Another suggestion was the idea of learning more about other nations – Sarain or Maren, or maybe even locations on the other side of the world that we know little or nothing of. The notion of a Saren tale was expounded upon to the point of wishing for a book about Thayet’s youth in Sarain, ending with the moment she met up with Alanna, Liam and Coram in Lioness Rampant.
There were also suggestions that Pierce focus on groups or concepts that had been mentioned or featured in previous books: the Bazhir’s shaman school, the Queen’s Riders, the Royal University. And there were suggestions for characters we wanted to see more of: Niko, the younger Conté children, old King Jasson, Queen Lianne and King Roald in their early days, Thom and Alan of Pirate’s Swoop, and of course more tales of Lady Knight Keladry and all her various cohorts.
Perhaps the most emphatic suggestion of books we’d like to see Pierce write, though, was the request that she stop putting off the oft-promised book about Maura of Dunlath.
