Board Update
by Ubiquitous
Goldenlake has been a very busy bee these last few months, and we're almost at 25000 posts and over almost 2000 threads, which is just phenomenal. We've also had a bunch of events, from full blown challenges, to smaller, but no less fun and exciting celebrations.
Tortall was a hub of activity these few months. There was The Kel Matchmaking Thread, which discussed possible matches for Kel, and where they'd like to see in terms of romantic interests. Following from that was the ♥ Kel/Wyldon Thread ♥, which sparked a bout of Wyldon love to rival that of the Roger cult. Of course, we made some room for the other boys as well, with threads such as Behind every great Sheroe there's a Great Hero? where we discussed the awesome men behind our equally awesome sheroes and George's Sacrifices which discussed George's leaving the Rogue to pursue his love for Alanna.
There was even more shippy fun in Emelan with threads such as Single Sandry? and Tris/Niko. Magic also got a lot of discussion, in threads like Lightsbridge, and Ambient Magic, which discussed different types of ambient magic.
In Provost's Dog, it's all about the character love, with threads such as Tunstall and On Goodwin. There was discussion of the source of Beka's magic in the Beka's Magic - Gift, Sight or Wild Magic? thread. There was also some good-natured rivalry between our modern day Tortallans and the Provost's Dog crew in PD vs modern Tortall (Bloodhound spoilers). And of course, Plot Speculation (Spoilers!) for Mastiff.
Up and Coming has been all over canon, with threads such as Fanon to Canon, which asked members what they'd like to see become canon, and it's counterpart thread, Things That Should Never Become Canon. There was also lots of fangirly squee for at the news of the upcoming companion guide for Tortall in the Companion Book? thread.
In Writer's Circle, the Kel/Wyldon love continued with the Kel Wyldon Plotbunny Thread. There was the creation of the Request Thread, for other people to add in their requsts and plotbunnies for a new home and discussion of fics in progress in Your WIPs. And of course, all things writing related, from Writing Mediums to Muses to Characters. November also saw the start of National Novel Writing month, and The NaNoWriMo Thread.
September saw the start of art challenges, and after the massive success of One Sentence Week, in October we held a Twitter weekend, where people had to submit fics 140 characters or less. As Wyldon mania gripped the board, we held an official Wyldon Winter Mountoff on the 21st of November to mark the start of the unofficial Wyldon Winter, which resulted in plenty of wonderful Wyldon fics being written. In December we began our Midwinter Festivities, including twenty-five days of Advent Prompts.
I think we've covered the main points, but it feels like we've barely scratched the surface. Keep an eye out for the upcoming Secrets and Lies Week and, of course, the Tortall Fanfic SMACKDOWN!
