Title: Inversion Rating: G Word Count: 34 words Summary (and any Warnings): Not every girl wants to be a knight. Notes: Weird AU I'm playing with, along with the practice of bacha posh.
-
It is easy to resent the way the Lump speaks of the Lioness, Zahra bint Alhaz thinks, even as she dutifully fastens on the tight corset - at least the Lioness had a choice.

I love this idea - both the bacha posh take, and Zahir’s/Zahra’s subsequent change in attitude towards Alanna. I can imagine this going on in a place like Tortall, especially, where Bazhir girls are doubly marginalised.
Edit: Also enjoyed the glimpse of girls who don’t want to be knights, at all, because there must be many.

Ooh, you've piqued my interest in this AU. I hope I get to see more of Zahra and her thoughts and experiences!

Interesting, I like the contrast between Zahra's rebellious thoughts and her 'dutiful' actions (and the restrictive corset imagery). I find the bacha posh concept fascinating and looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks guys! I think there's potential for an interesting contrast with Kel as well since Kel is willingly going for her knighthood because she has a broad idea of a knight's duty, and it's clearly something that gives her life meaning.

Late to the party, but agree that this is such an interesting idea! Love how much imagery and emotion you've evoked in just this short fic.
