Title: Bolt Prompt: #108 Lost and Found Rating: PG for mild implied violence. Warnings: Mild implied/impending violence (not shown on screen). Notes: Canon-divergent AU for Trickster’s Choice. Loosely set in my Family Ties-verse, but can be read alone. I’ve followed canon in using ‘mixed/full-blooded’ to describe the raka and luarin.
*******
Sarai was well and truly lost.
In the trackless, jungly valleys beyond Inti, with only the crescent moon to navigate by, it was impossible to be sure of her bearings.
She hadn’t dared stop at Pohon or Inti. The villagers mightn’t take kindly to the presence of a mixed-blooded noble from Rajmuat, Sarugani’s daughter or not. She was not Mother, as Dove so often delighted in reminding her. Besides, Ulasim and Chenaol would look there first thing tomorrow —
Something swooped directly at her. Hurrok!
Nassa neighed and shied. Sarai clung to the reins, terrified, praying the mare wouldn’t bolt.

Oh, wow! This was intense.
And nice to see something written about Sarai and the Copper Isles for this event. I really like how you explored the complex racial relationships even in this short piece.
Well-done!

Thank you, devil! Much of the racial stuff is already in canon, but I wanted to explore it in a slightly more acceptable situation than Aly’s blackface. Glad you found it intense!

Yeah, Aly's blackface was a cringe moment for me, so I'm so glad that you chose to explore the racial tensions in a different way that I think is more sensitive and acceptable since I did think the blackface was insensitive even if I don't believe Tammy meant it to be offensive or hurtful.
