Title: Hotpot
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Summary: Jia Jiu eats hotpot alone.
Hotpot
Jia Jiu never tasted hotpot before she was stationed to Yuzhong, capital of the mountainous western province of Yu. In Yuzhong, there was a hotpot restaurant on every street.
Hotpot-named for its fiery red chili oil as much as for the blazing temperatures at which it was served--was not meant to be eaten alone. It was meant to be enjoyed with large groups of family and friends gathered around a sizzling pot, dipping chopsticks of duck intestine and beef strips into sauce spiced with mouth-numbing, tingling peppercorn.
Eating hotpot alone, Jia Jiu missed her family left behind in the south.

Your descriptions here are so evocative. And poor Jia Jiu, eating alone! Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m so flattered that you found my descriptions so evocative. It came from doing a lot of research into the Chongqing hotpot so iconic in Szechuan cuisine in China. The real world can really help give me inspiration for vivid details. And I did feel bad for Jia Jiu eating alone, especially a dish meant to be shared with family and friends.
