Is anyone else currently obsessed with the Wellerman sea shanty because of the internet? Any other sea shanties that people recommend to get rid of a single sea shanty stuck on repeat in their brain? And no Rosie , Nice Weather for Ducks does not count as a sea shanty, even if it involves ducks and swimming and water!

Haha, the Wellerman fits the times; isolation and hanging out for the grocery delivery and the end of hard times.
My partner actually got a double disk compilation album of sea shanties a few years ago, I think it was called Rogue's Gallery. It has some good ones, a few are quite rude haha. I'm quite fond of Nick Cave singing about Fire Down Below, probably because it's a triple entendre about lust, venereal disease, and eternal damnation and Nick Cave is perfect for it.

A quick play through of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag will give you plenty of sea shanties to occupy your brain. You literally have to chase them down, and then every time you sail your crew sings them!

Random revisit to this topic, Home Free do a sea shanty medley which is for some bizarre reason one of the few ways to get Little Miss to sleep! I think it's the beat, but it's definitely weird.

Another random revisit to this topic, but if anyone is interested in creating their own sea shanties, I came across this- a ttrpg-style system for generating them. (Can be played with 1-8 players) It costs a minimum of $2 USD. Shantymakers on itch.io
