Author: devilinthedetails Claim: Shinkokami-Wicked in Winter. Date/time finished: July 6th, 2020-6 days to complete. Notes: I'm so happy I finished this Wicked in Winter triathlon. It gave me the opportunity to explore Shinko in more depth and to delve into her relationship with Roald. I got to explore how her past in the Yamani Islands shaped her and her values, which was fascinating. I look forward to completing my Fun in the Sun set for Shinko as well. She deserves some time in the spotlight!

Tamari , congratulations on finishing your Kalasin Triathlon! Everything you wrote was so poetically beautiful and tragic. I really felt like you gave her character justice and captured her unique culture. Author: devilinthedetails Claim: Jonathan of Conte-Wicked in Winter Date finished: July 11th, 2020-3 days to complete Notes: I really enjoyed writing these stories from Jon's perspective. It was a great opportunity to explore his relationship with Thayet as well as with his father and oldest son. I look forward to delving into Jon's character even more with the Fun in the Sun Triathlon. Jon is a really rich character with lots of deep relationships to examine in writing, and it was nice to be reminded of that with this Wicked in Winter Triathlon. Author: devilinthedetails Claim: Jonathan of Conte-Fun in the Sun Date finished: July 14th, 2020-3 days to compete Notes: I did really did enjoy delving into Jon's experiences and psyche for this Triathlon. I feel like I was able to explore some of the changes he had experienced in his life and how they had shaped and defined him not only as a man but as a king. It was interesting to be able to explore how his attitude toward change might be complex and evolving over time. I also enjoyed being able to include some of his friends from the SOTL books in this set. There might not have been that much Fun in the Sun in these stories, but it was still a fun set to write. I'm sort of sad to be done writing about Jon for now...

Traders are definitely interesting to explore, mistrali , and I'm glad you're delving into their culture for this event. I've really enjoyed all your stories about Polyam so far, and I look forward to seeing everything you create for the Fun in the Sun triathlon. Author: devilinthedetails Claim: Zahir ibn Alhaz Fun in the Sun/Wicked in Winter Date/time finished: Fun in the Sun-Finished July 29th 2020-8 days/Wicked in Winter-Finished July 19th, 2020-5 days Notes: I enjoyed completing these two triathlons. It was interesting to chart Zahir's development throughout his time as a page, squire and knight. It was also fascinating to explore that interplay between his Bazhir heritage and his life in the north. Delving into his relationships with everyone from Jon to Joren was also consistently engaging and inspiring to me. I also loved being able to explore a variety of settings and terrains ranging from the Royal Palace to the Great Southern Desert to the Scanran border. It was a privilege to dive into Zahir's mind in these two triathlons, and I hope readers will also find these glimpses into Zahir's mind and experiences worthwhile in some way.

Thanks devilinthedetails! I’ve very much enjoyed your fics about the push-pull between Zahir’s Bazhir heritage and his place in the wider (and often, whiter) Tortallan community. Congrats on finishing another Triathlon!!

Author: mistrali Claim: Polyam, Wicked in Winter Date/time finished: 2 Aug Notes: Oh, man, this took me a while! I wrote a lot more than I usually do for the two longer prompts, plus an extra fic, so I think I’m all out of inspiration for Polyam for a bit. I hope this Fun in the Sun was a balance of serious fic exploring Polyam’s place in Tenth Caravan Idaram and some lighter moments where she got to relax and enjoy her surroundings.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed creating the characters and ‘building’ the world of the Yanjingyi steppes for this series.

Author: devilinthedetails Claim: Lianne II of Conte-Fun in the Sun, Wicked in Winter, Cruel Summer, and Hazy Shade of Winter Date/time finished: Final triathlon completed on 11 August 2020. Notes: This project of twelve stories focused on Lianne II of Conte was the project with the most scope, scale, and sheer ambition that I undertook during this two month of event. I enjoyed traveling with Lianne from Tortall to colorful, spicy Maren, a country I haven't explored much in my writing. I also found it fascinating to delve into her family relationships with her siblings and her father in particular. Her forbidden love and passion for her childhood friend Alan who became her paramour was also a compelling thread for me to follow throughout her life. This project was challenging to work on but also really fulfilling for me to write, and I appreciated the opportunity to flesh out the life of a character who is little more than a name in the published books themselves. That gave me so much freedom to paint Lianne's life in these stories. mistrali , I think you did a great job capturing that blend of more serious fiction exploring Polyam's complicated place in Tenth Caravan Idaram with some more light-hearted moments where she could just enjoy her surroundings and her friendships. I think you brought both Polyam and the Yanjingyi steppes vividly to life in your series about Polyam. I'm so flattered that you enjoyed my stories focusing on Zahir and that push-and-pull tension between his Bazhir heritage and his place in the wider, often whiter world of Tortall. My next project will delve some more into the culture of the Bazhir and their complex history with the rest of Tortall by looking at the life and times of Ali Mukhtab.

Your Lianne series was excellently written, Devil. You really brought out the complexity of Lianne II as a character.

Author: Tamari Claim: Kalasin of Conte Date/time finished: 8/13/20 Notes: It's done! I wasn't totally satisfied with the final fic, my attempt to bring the story full circle, but I worked on it bit by bit for weeks and decided to go ahead and post it. When I started writing Kally's Triathlon, I knew right away that I wanted to focus on her relationship to nation -- Tortall, Carthak, and Sarain. Looking back at both series, there is a distance in Kally's arc that is different from the way I chose to tell Kalasin I's story. But that's kind of the point, I think -- both of their stories are stories about homeland, but also stories about displacement and loss. Especially Kally, who is half-Saren but assimilated into Tortallan culture, and then sent away forever to a land she doesn't know... well, the diaspora vibes came through.

Tamari , congratulations on finishing your Kalasin of Conte series! I really enjoyed your exploration of her relationship with the nations of Tortall, Carthak, and Sarain as well as her complex relationships with her family members. You did some beautiful work with both Kalasins this summer. mistrali , thank you so much! I'm so happy that you thought my Lianne series was well-written. I really enjoyed being able to delve into a character who is only a name in canon and get to carve out a complex life of joy and sorrow for her. It really gave me a chance to go wild with my imagination as it were. Author: devilinthedetails Claim: Ali Mukhtab-Cruel Summer and Hazy Shade of Winter Date/time finished: Cruel Summer finished 16 August 2020-6 days/Hazy Shade of Winter finished 28 August 2020-16 days Notes: This was in some ways the hardest of these series for me to finish because my life started getting quite crazy with a return to in-person physical work but I'm glad that I was able to complete Ali's arc. Delving into the history of the Bazhir from Ali's perspective was fascinating, and it was moving for me to be able to examine Ali's complex relationship with northerners in this story. I also took pleasure in being able to imagine and write Ali as a child and a young man gradually becoming initiated in the tradition, spirituality, and magic of being the Bazhir Voice. This was a pleasure to write even when it wasn't easy to write. I thank all my readers for being patient with these series. Without their patience and support, this series might never have been finished.
