I don't know how much of this news filters through to international sites, but this has (obviously) been pretty big news here in NZ. Here is some background here, here, and here if you want to read up. I think we've got interesting times ahead--at 37, Jacinda Ardern is our youngest PM in over 100 years, and the third woman out of the the last five PMs. But this certainly feels like generational change, and the tidal wave of haters and trolls that everyone expected on Twitter and talk back radio didn't seem to materialise, which was really heartening.

It was big news the day of the announcement over this side of the ditch ๐
As well as being very excited for Jacinta and her partner for news that is obviously really important and special to them, I've been so impressed by her public statements about it and how she is already defying the criticisms and the stereotypes. She always seems very calm and collected and I hope that carries through. Obviously this is a special and personal time for her and her family, but I think she is an excellent role model for women in leadership and I hope she is able to inspire changes in behaviours and attitudes about women and mothers in power.
Also the fish hook picture was so cute! ๐
