mistrali hopefully it'll all be over with by then! However, we've been put into full lockdown as of midnight tonight for six days. Essential services only, schools are shut except for the children of essential workers, the whole shebang. I've been at my new job two whole days! My boss thinks that it will be over after the six days, but I'm not so sure. Time will tell I suppose.

Hopefully things will be okay now they've got to the heart of the issue and that harsh restrictions won't have to be re-imposed! Fingers crossed you get to have your little boy's party - that's really exciting that he's turning one!

Kypriotha they ended the lockdown last night because it turned out that the idiot that started all this lied to the contact tracers about the circumstances under which he caught the virus. So we're free again, but restrictions are pretty tight still, so we're going to have to make a decision about Little Dude's birthday in the next week or so.

Sorry I haven't really been around. My job has been incredibly busy, and whilst I had aspirations of logging on this past weekend, we got put in lockdown over Christmas so even though I know pragmatically it's the best thing, I'm not feeling very festive if I'm honest!

I’m sorry you have to be stuck in lockdown over Christmas Rosie! Our restrictions were lightened considerably last Monday, which meant we got to have a birthday party for Little Dude after all. It was a lovely day even though he didn’t really know or care what the fuss was about. His slightly older friends were very keen to help him try out his new toys though, so the poor kid had to wait until they went home before he got to play with his own presents. Our Christmas plans get to go ahead as scheduled too. My parents are headed to my uncle’s for the usual big family do, but we’re going to my in laws this year. My husband is having surgery Christmas Eve to get his horrible, horrible lap band removed so that he can get a gastric bypass in a few months, so we’re staying closer to home in case he feels rotten.

Finished work for the year, and my partner and I will be having a quiet Christmas and New Year period at home. We're very lucky to be virus free at the moment in NZ, but I have brought my work laptop home with me just in case the virus gets out into the community again while everyone is on holiday.

Very quiet holidays for me too, though will be heading interstate in a few days to visit family and friends (some of whom I haven't seen for a year).
Hope everyone has been able to take some time to rest and relax, and connect with friends and family in whatever ways are available (usual Covid caveats apply).

So I'm pregnant again and the morning sickness is kicking my butt big time. It started a little later this time I think so for a few glorious days I thought I might get lucky and not have it, but alas, it was not to be. Instead it is much worse! YAY!

Congrats on the pregnancy, and commiserations on the morning sickness. On the plus side, just think how worthwhile it will be when your baby’s born! Sounds like it’ll be just in time for summer, and Christmas I thought pregnancy always came with morning sickness, but apparently not.

mistrali everyone's different. My mum had absolutely no morning sickness at all! Which sucks doubly for me because she thinks it's hilarious that I'm sick. We're looking at early November for the new arrival, which isn't as close to Christmas as Little Dude's four days before! XD

Things are super stressful at the moment.
My parents (who own the house we live in), sold our house with the plan that we would apply for a home loan and they would assist us with a substantial deposit. We hired a broker friend of my dad's to help with it who told us we qualified for a certain amount and that we shouldn't have any issue getting said loan. Fast Forward to this week - we're packing, husband is working, I'm still feeling like death, we've put an offer on a lovely house, and it turns out the bank won't lend us anywhere near as much as we were told. In order to make it work my parents have had to sacrifice the little money they were going to keep from the sale, and ask my grandfather to help them cover the rest while they redraw on their mortgage and super in order to pay him back.
And we still don't know whether we're actually even going to get the loan. If we don't, we're looking at having to live with my in-laws indefinitely, which will undoubtedly strain our relationship and make me absolutely crazy.

Ahhhh sending you big big hugs. That sounds like a right mess, I am sorry you are dealing with it. Hopefully it will work out with a wild plot twist at the end, and all will be well! Sending lots of energy toward that outcome

I hope stress gets better soon for everyone going through hard times now!
In my life, I started a new job in November, was offered a promotion beginning in July! And will be moving across the country (again) in August to the perfect little apartment with my two dear cats. I wish I had more time to write and read, lately, and looking forward to being able to see my friends in person again. But things are pretty all right.

We finally sorted everything out and moved into our new home. Things still aren’t going quite according to plan but at least we’re in!
My morning sickness has finally mostly gone away but does come for random visits on occasion. And the baby is a girl!

Sounds like well-deserved good news! We're back in lockdown lite again. Been taking the time to slowly process and heal and just get over things. Poetry has been a comfort, as has Leonard Cohen. If I haven't mentioned it, I broke up with my ex a little around this time last year, also in the middle of the pandemic, and I have been studiously avoiding having to think about her or come to terms with it. I guess we have to pay the piper eventually.

Everyone's been busy with life, huh? Tamari, that sounds nice! I'm glad things are going well for you. mageprincess, I'm glad you're in your house now and exciting to know you'll be welcoming a wee girl. Seek, I'm sorry to hear you went through a breakup. I hope your heart heals soon. For myself, I've been renovating my house the last few months which has had its ups and downs (the biggest literal down was finding out our foundations needed to go down four metres). Luckily we're on the up again at the moment and on the homeward stretch... when it's finished, I will finally have a real kitchen again. It's been two years without one, doing all of our cooking on benchtop appliances and a small camping barbecue. We're pretty much used to it now, but damn I can't wait to have an oven again.

I don't pay attention to the board properly for a few months and come back to see everyone has been really busy!
Congrats to everyone on the various pieces of good news and my heartfelt sympathy for everyone on the less good news. Hopefully things have gotten better, or get better soon, though with new strains of Covid, seems like lots of us are facing the prospects of lockdowns continuing for a while now.
I myself am not in lockdown, but my proximity to Sydney is having flow on effects, the worst being I currently can't travel to Melbourne to see my grandparents. But as long as we don't go into lockdown ourselves and my partner and I can move into our new house without too many (more) interruptions, I'll be happy.

Been MIA for awhile as well, but I'm happy to announce it's largely because I started a new job as a teen librarian in early June. Been a little over a month in my new position!

Thanks, Tamari! I'm really enjoying the new job and getting a chance to rec and purchase some awesome books. YA literature is such an exciting genre to work in right now. In some ways, it has more creativity going on than the adult genres, and there is so much more diversity in the books than when I was a teenager. It's really wonderful to see!

Seems like the board has been super quiet lately which makes me sad, but I hope everyone is good, and it's just busy lives keeping us away.
Baby girl will be here any time now. Hoping some rather than later lol.

Yeah, things have been really quiet lately... I haven't really had much to say, and recently got distracted by finding another super chill fandom space to hang out in.

Little Miss has arrived. She made it to her exit date, which surprised us all. She is teeny tiny at 6lbs 12oz, 2 Oz smaller than her brother was. Apparently I make tiny babies!
Her big brother loves her to bits and is always kissing her and checking on her. He thinks its very important that she has her dummy at all times, he will take it across the house just to make sure that whoever has her has it for her.

Congrats mageprincess! Hope things have calmed, Rosie! Checking in again. It's been quite a while for me but I'm juggling work and part-time studies to do data analytics so life is exhausting. Anyone giving NaNoWriMo a shot?
