New year, new thread 😊
I've been so busy lately that I've hardly had time for Glake, but I'm hoping I'll have more time soon!

There is not enough randomness in this thread!!
My wedding is stressing me out so much that if I was paying for it, I would have cancelled it by now. What I was so excited about in the initial planning stages has turned out to be not what I wanted. I'd love nothing more than to secretly just get married before the big day in May and just take the pressure of myself for that day - but no one seems to take me seriously when I mention it.
And to cap it off, my grandpa has spent the last few days in and out of hospital. He tripped over a sprinkler that didn't retract properly and smacked face first into the concrete path in his garden. He broke his nose in three places and had a small bleed on his brain - he is fine, but a couple of days later he fell out of bed and couldn't catch himself on his sore wrists and ended up back in hospital. He's okay, mostly just grumpy (grumpier!) and he wants to drive places but my dad is trying to convince him it's a bad idea until he sees his GP. He was also diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease while he was in hospital, which we basically knew he had due to him having similar symptoms to my grandma (who had Parkinson's), but he wasn't happy about the diagnosis.
All in all, an interesting week!

Weddings can be really stressful mageprincess. I hope everything comes together for your's and you have a good day ☺ I hope your grandfather is okay too. I am off on my first work trip today (to attend a conference interstate), which is both exciting and nerve wracking!

I did gardening today. Gosh, I despise gardening. I like the idea of having a nice garden that makes my house look good, but I truly dislike the work that entails. But we planted some native grasses and miniature hebes, which should be super easy care, and tomorrow we'll put down some river stones around them. So hopefully that will mean less weeds, and therefore less drudgery for me.

I have a lot of pots on my balconies. I love the idea of having lots of plants, but I mostly have to stick with succulents, because other plants have a tendency to die on me...

Hey guys! Just dropping in to mention I'm still alive (just, uni stuff and I maaaay have fallen into another fandom for a while though the shiny is starting to wear off.) Haven't yet caught up on T&S but anyway, came here to check if anyone is doing Camp NaNo this year and looking to cabin up!

Hah! Me too, guys :> Maybe less on the uni front because I may want to see if PhD is an option rather than jumping straight into work, but more on that some other time. I'll be reading T&S soon; hopefully, that'll catapult me right back in with you guys! Until then, great to have popped by!

Wedding dramas abound you guys! Settle in! it's a good one! I ordered my dress in March last year, and was told it would arrive in December. It didn't turn up until early January but that's neither here nor there. The problem was, it was too short. I am 6"1 and the dress was significantly shorter than I remembered it being. When this was pointed out to the owner of the bridal store conducting the first fitting, her answer was "maybe you'll have to wear flats!" and she pinned the side of my dress and that was that. Fast forward, more dress fittings, and nothing had changed. With my heels on the dress was 10 inches too short in the front and still all the woman had done was pin the side again! She told me they could drop the waist, only to call me a week later and tell me that the dressmakers had told her that couldn't be done and that they were going to put lace around the bottom that "wouldn't match but would still look good!". Then when my dad called her to talk to her about how unhappy I was she told him something different again! keep in mind at this point I have been to 2-3 fittings and haven't actually seen a dressmaker. In the meantime, I have a veeeery angry bridesmaid doing veeery angry research into the origins of my dress That brings us to two weeks ago, with my righteously angry bridesmaid in tow, arriving to once again put on the too short dress. My champion of a bridesmaid immediately launches into "this is bad customer service, you knew how tall she was and didn't order the dress long enough!" but every time someone said something she didn't like, the owner would walk away from us. The owner tried to tell us that the dress only came in one length, and you should've seen her face when my darling bridesmaid proceeded to tell her why she absolutely could order longer lengths if you spoke to the designer rather than the wholesaler (you should've seen the owner's face when BM named her wholesaler!). The finally present dressmaker assures me that she can fix the dress, but the issue now is that I hate. this. dress. My mum is trying to be practical and saying that it'll be fine if she can fix it, but I hate the dress and don't want my memory of my wedding to be tainted by a dress that I hate. I said that I would rather just get a new dress and the owner kept saying that she had a right to fix the dress, which she does, but I really didn't want her to, because I had visions of her dragging this out with no time to get something else organised if it didn't work out. We get my dad into the shop, and the owner immediately starts paying attention to us again. Dad takes in the dress, can see it's too short but nearly hits the roof when he realises I'm on bare feet. By this time I'm almost in tears and I can't look at myself in the mirror. I tell dad how I feel about the dress and he immediately tells the owner we want a refund. We leave the store and dad tells me to go buy a new dress. Champion bridesmaid calls another store and explains what happens and within the next two hours I have a new dress that is soooo much better than the old one. And we get a full refund. Nothing like a little drama 6 weeks from the wedding!

Ahhh, mageprincess, that sounds like a horrible horrible experience to have. I’m glad you have a better dresss now, and I hope the rest of your prep is smooth sailing to an awesome wedding day!

Oh no mageprincess that's a horrible process to have to go through! I helped two friends with their dress shopping last year and it's stressful enough without these types of complications! I'm so glad your bridesmaid and parents were so supportive and helped you get a dress you like better Best of luck with the rest of the wedding preparation, hope it goes smoothly!

Glad everything worked out well in the end, mageprincess, though it's a shame that so much stress was caused by an incompetent dress shop. I hope that everything goes smoothly here on out and that your family and bridesmaids continue to be supportive!

Oh dear, what dreadful customer service! That's really awful. I'm glad you got a dress you like in the end though.
I don't really have much experience with weddings, but I have a friend who designed and made her own wedding dress and her two bridesmaids' dresses. She was stitching her sister into her bridesmaid dress at the last minute when my friend's mum noticed that she hadn't even hemmed her own wedding dress that she was already wearing. Apparently it ended with her standing on a table slowly turning around as her mum hemmed the dress on the sewing machine as she wore it! And then she was late to the ceremony haha.

Idleness that is amazing! Your friend must've been the chillest bride ever! Thankfully I only have small stuff left to do now, and I have a lovely dressmaker doing alterations

Where I live, it's been a wet, cold spring. I actually got an inflammation in my chest that lasted for about a week that wasn't fun at all. Now it is finally starting to warm up here, though we still are getting a ton of rain. I'm sick of rain and want to see the sun

Home sick from work again. The brief feeling of respite turned out to be a false friend.
But at least I get to hang out with my magpie friend on my sunny balcony 😊

I also continue to be alive! My study abroad is going well, although I miss my friends at university and my kittens at home (and can't wait to read the Numair book once I return). I have a surf lesson today for the first time, so wish me luck. I'll be riding the waves blind since I don't have contact lenses!

I just got back from a couple of days in Dublin, which was really great, so hard to settle back into work!

Your trip to Dublin sounds cool, Rosie.
I'm so jealous of everyone going on adventures. My big staycation is coming up starting next week, but all I have planned is spring cleaning. Blah.

Glad you had fun surfing. The fun is all that really matters. I also hope the Star Wars movie is good. I enjoyed Rogue One and Last Jedi a lot, so hopefully I feel the same about the Solo movie though it will be weird to see someone who isn't Harrison Ford play Han. That might take some getting used to...
