Has anyone had any fic or quasi-canon inspiration from The Spy's Guide? Plans for new fics or additions to old stories?

Pirate's Swoop + the new baby fics!! I'm so here for them!
I definitely will try to incorporate the new spy terminology into any future spy fics I write, including the epic spy!Lianne fic I'm always thinking about and never actually writing.

Great thread topic. I have some plot bunnies about Alan's time in Legann bouncing around in my head now. I could see him and Roald having some good times together.

I know I said in the initial impressions topic that I don't like the premise of Alanna being pregnant, but I would be interested to see how some of the ramifications of that are explored in fic. For example, in our world, women of Alanna's age have a much higher chance of complications with pregnancy, including certain disabilities or other medical conditions being more common in the babies (i.e. allergies, asthma). I would be interested how that would play out in Tortall - does the same thing happen there? We see the idea of a baby with a disability explored briefly in the short story Nawat, but I would be interested to see further exploration, because the concept of disability is not really explored in the Tortall universe (and I know that some people didn't like how it was handled in Nawat). devilinthedetails It had not occurred to me at all whilst reading Spy's Guide that Alan and Roald might have been at Legann at the same time. I feel like that is another example of Tammy confusing her timeline, because I don't know if a knight master can have two charges at once? Not that Alan would be a squire and there is nothing in the books that actually says a knight master can't have two. It's an interesting idea.

Not that Alan would be a squire and there is nothing in the books that actually says a knight master can't have two. It's an interesting idea. You are right that the ramifications of Alanna's pregnancy definitely could be explored in more depth in fic, and you are right that unfortunately women who become pregnant at Alanna's age in our world have an increased risk of complications and giving birth to children with disabilities. That could be an opportunity for how disability is dealt with in Tortall to be examined in more detail. That aspect of Alanna's pregnancy didn't even occur to me until you brought it up, but it definitely is very relevant and could inspire meaningful fanfic. I admit I am something of a Prince Roald fan so that's probably why I picked up on the fact that Alan and Roald would likely have had to be in Legann at the same time. In the books, though I don't remember it being stated outright, I like you always had the impression that a knight would have one squire at a time, but maybe in the old days Alan wrote about where a page would train under one knight rather than at the palace, a knight could have more than one person training with him. In some ways, it might be easier for Imrah to have Roald around when training Alan, since Roald could probably teach Alan some basic stuff. Alan is definitely going about his knighthood training in an unconventional way, so I don't know if it's a mistake in the timeline or just more of a testimony to how different Alan's chosen training method was. Definitely a lot to consider here.
