Seek Ah, that puts a slightly different slant on things - thank you. "helpful since the people who really need those can't get to them." I was wondering what you meant here - people who are already sick, or people who can't afford those things? Argh sorry I had a response typed up and my browser hung, I lost it, and I'm too tired to retrieve it. But that's why discussion is great: you helped bring home the public health policy ramifications for me The tldr; version is that I'm actually referring to non-sick people who live in high-risk clusters (or even the relatives/housemates of those who have caught it.) I'm lucky that my area hasn't yet been declared a high-risk cluster for dengue or Zika (as far as I know), which means that while I get bitten by mosquitoes still, insect repellent might make my life slightly more pleasant but it really isn't doing me as much good as it does the high-risk cluster people. Our problem is that when lots of people who don't need the repellents, nets, sleeves etc. buy that stuff, they generally do it because of Zika panic. (Dengue is a fact of life; dengue season, etc, so you're right to point out that we've become kind of inured to it.) Even worse, people end up stockpiling out of fear--so our shelves are completely wiped clean, and lots of these are because people are so scared of Zika that they're buying repellents they aren't going to use. This doesn't really help the high-risk cluster people very much.

Seek Oh, I see. I didn't understand what you meant by 'high risk' at first. Yep, you're very right that that sort of short-lived panic/reactivity does very little to actually help, particularly in a city, and even more so in a densely populated one like Singapore. Because let's face it, Zika will fade from public awareness eventually, and although you can never have too much mosquito repellent/nets/coils, it does push up the prices and create scarcity where scarcity is least desirable. (And despite my very short reply to it, I did read your earlier post, albeit at 5am or something - just didn't have much to say because it all made sense and I agree with everything you've pointed out.)

I am having a long break over Christmas/January, but a lot of that will be travelling, so I'm not sure how restful it will be. I might try to extend it a bit, so I can have a real break. I definitely have enough hours accrued in lieu!! Ahh, definitely extend it, but also, will do my best to make sure you have fun/a break from work, even if it's not specifically restful! (we can always hang out at mine if you'd like, though I figure you'd rather do stuff)

I have Monday week off, which means I get three long weekends in a row, which I'm very much looking forward to.

Work has finally picked up! For the past month I've practically been paid very well to do very little, but twiddle my thumbs and prank my coworkers by sticking post-it notes over the lasers on their computer mice. Yes, idle hands and the devil's work. Luckily I've got a new project now.

So I've been following this Korean variety show, and recently they spent a couple of episodes doing an action film, which is pretty impressive considering the fact that the main cast are entertainers/comedians rather than actors. But anyway, this clip--don't mind the bit slightly before that--now represents my new headcanon for Clary Goodwin. I know she doesn't look like that, folks, but the awesome is just dripping through the screen. Detective Cha Soo Hyun is officially my fandom headcanon for Clary Goodwin, just let me be irrational about this >> And for those who wonder what's being said: Cha's just telling the suspect what he's under arrest for (hit and run, and instigating three murders.) One of the flunkies goes, "You can't do this, do you know who he is?" Cha: "Do you want obstructing the course of justice on top of that?" [Silence] "Move." [When suspect resists arrest] "That's right, you have to come at me like this for it to be fun." [Slaps on handcuffs] "I specialise in scum just like you." #headcanonGoodwin #shecanarrestmeanytime *___*

My whole "working too much and not taking proper breaks" finally caught up with me and I am on my third day home sick (but luckily feeling much better than I was). Definitely taking a proper day off soon though! Idleness my co-workers and I have done that "post it note over the mouse laser" prank before. Lots of fun when bored.

Thanks Max I can tell I'm feeling better because I woke up this morning thinking "ugh I can't believe I still have another two days off before I can go back to work". (I've reached the "bored of spending all day on the couch" phase.)

I am currently waiting to hear whether I got a job that I went for last week. I'm really hoping that I get it, it would be such a relief.
I've been liking my current job a lot more over the last few months since the office bully moved on, but my boss has told us that there's not enough money coming in and we need to fix it. Unfortunately he doesn't want to put any effort into fixing it himself and he just expects the rest of us to fix it for him. Unfortunately we can only do so much if he won't step up. Its getting to the point where there might not be enough money to pay us. So I have to make the right decision for me and find something else before I find myself unemployed through no fault of my own.
My other half is currently unemployed too (that's an entirely different story!), so it's super important that I still have a stable job.

Hope it goes/went well mageprincess !! It always seems like it must be such a pressure to have a partner relying on you financially, or to be that reliant partner. I bought a new bra yesterday. And it's wireless, and it's my new favouritest thing. I'm a complicated cup-to-band size, which makes underwires a generally horrible experience for me at some point or other, so I'm so sold on the wire free life haha.

Hope you've received good news on the job front mageprincess !! I'm a complicated cup-to-band size, which makes underwires a generally horrible experience for me at some point or other, so I'm so sold on the wire free life haha. I don't have an underwire issues usually, but I am also a complicated cup-to-band size, which just makes finding bras that fit comfortably a pain sometimes (there was a period where I could only buy bras in Sydney or Melbourne, not my city, because they were the only places big enough to have the range). So it totally sucks and I feel your pain! Glad you have found some bras that work for you In other news, I ended up being sick for much longer than anticipated and am only just now feeling some semblance of normality return. Fingers crossed I have actually defeated the stupid virus this time! (Instead of the false hope I had earlier, where I felt well for one single day, before returning to being unwell.)

Hahaha no I haven't heard yet Kypriotha! The office manager emailed me to let me know that they had not decided yet because one of the partners had to go to Darwin for the rest of the week and they couldn't make a decision without them. I'm taking the fact that I got an email at all as a good sign that I'm at least still in the running . In other news, the entirety of South Australia lost power tonight! It went out around 3:45 or so and we didn't get ours back until almost 8:00 pm. It's slowly coming back on all across the state, so hopefully we don't lose it again.

Vala it was so eerie! A lot of people didn't get their power back until the early hours of the morning, and my in-laws didn't get theirs back until yesterday! Also, guys, guys... I got the job!

I'm a bit top heavy myself, so hard to find bras that are comfortable and don't exaggerate that which doesn't need any exaggeration. Though bra shopping remains one of my most detested chores, I have noticed in the last few years there seem to be more options available. But. The utter comfort of wirefree. <3

Congrats mageprincess! That's really exciting news I don't think I've ever tried wirefree, so I can't really say which I like better, but I've never really had any problems with underwires (now I can find bras in my size a bit more easily again...). Thanks mistrali I'm pretty much better now *fingers crossed touch wood say three hail Marys and turn around three times* Just tired from a busy weekend, but I'm trying to be careful, because I'm very aware I could easily get sick again if I overdo it.

Hey guys! It's been a few years, for those who remember me from way back in the day (I think I last posted in 2011/2012). I'm studying abroad in London currently, missing my TP books desperately. I just got over the worst flu which had me bed-ridden for weeks. I was just remembering when I had the flu back in 2008, before I discovered the fandom, and I read all the Circle of Magic books. I remember reading Briar's Book and being convinced I had the plague. Anyway, it's great to see some old faces here, and I'm so grateful that this site is still alive and well! So many of the things I used to love have faded away.

Hi Elvensmith! Nice to see you again Hope you're feeling better, too! And congrats on the job mageprincess!! My dad's laptop died on me because he filled it with viruses like an old person before he gave it to me. I only needed it to get through 8 weeks of school. It couldn't manage even that much..

Welcome back Elvensmith! I am hanging out for my day off and therefore three day weekend next week... But before now and then have to get through a busy few night and weekend and more interviews with prospective new housemates (ugh, so exhausting...).

Ugh, I'm so busy and getting hardly any sleep at night. My dog is really bothered by all the renovations, and has taken to sleeping on by bed - which is great except for the fact that he goes up to my waist and weighs about the same as me, meaning he takes up all the room.

Ugh Kypriotha, finding housemates is the WORST. I had a super busy weekend-- one of my friends visited me in London and we went to the Royal ballet, saw the Mousetrap, and went to the Tate Modern!!

We've locked in a new housemate, which I'm very relieved about! She seems really nice too, which is always a bonus!
I'm glad we got it sorted before this weekend, because I have a very hectic day ahead of me - breakfast and a movie with a friend, meeting my dad at my house so he can chop up the tree that fell over, tea with friends at the tea house, a halloween party with my friend and her two month old baby and then dinner with my family.
I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

Gosh, Kypriotha, I feel tired just reading it! I feel like I've hardly been online these days. So busy with work, and now we're heading in to the end of spring/summer, there will be lots more social engagements too. I'm torn between looking forward to it and dreading it.

That sucks (The whole situation sucks.) If you (or anyone else) need to vent, you're always welcome to do so here. My only request is that it happens in the Practice Courts, just because politics can be a divisive topic (particularly at the moment!).
