Kati, you asked for shippy shenanigans between Dom and Kel. So I made some... Kind of. I have to admit that it has been a while since I read PotS so this may be ooc. And I'm sorry if it is.
Summary: Keladry and Domitan make a bet during a jousting match.
Rating: maybe pg?
Sir Keladry, lady knight of Tortall, sat astride her ornery mount, Peachblossom. At the other end of the jousting pitch her former knight master climbed into the saddle and accepted his lance from one of New Hope's young boys. She tried not to squirm in her seat. It had been a very long time since anybody had managed to unhorse Kel. And yet, just the sight of Raoul with a lance called to mind the glimpse of sky only seen when flying from the saddle.
"Don't tell me you're nervous, Mindelan," Domitan of Masbolle taunted at her ankle. "One too many times airborne?" His smirk revealed even write teeth. Kel's palms grew even more damp.
And now she was definitely going for a flying lesson. A lake. Just picture a still lake, Kel. "I suggest you step back. Peachblossom hasn't been for a run in a while."
Glancing down the pitch, Kel signaled ready and prepared to joust. Distantly she heard Dom laughing. With a deep breath she whispered a command and Peachblossom thundered toward Raoul.
The lance struck his shield soundly. And shattered.
With a whoop Dom came running toward her and, without having to ask, began massaging the numbness from her hand. "See. Nothing to worry about. My Lord trained you too well, in my opinion. Now he will never see you fly again."
"I don't know," she said after drinking some water. "Seems to me that he still has a few tricks up his sleeve. Wouldn't do to teach me everything."
"A wager then?" Mischief made his eyes sparkle and Kel felt her stomach drop into shoes. "If he unhorses you, I'll brave the perils of grooming Peachblossom so you can nurse your battered body."
Kel smacked his head-the only part of him she could easily reach. Her hand stayed there, unnoticed by either of them. "And if my bum stays where it is?"
"Then I win our bet. And a kiss." The going in his eye was familiar. It was the look Dom would get when he was flirting with a pretty girl. It made Kel feel rather warm in her paced armor.
Before she could reply Raoul roared, "Did I knock you senseless?" His mount was lined up and kicking at the dirt, ready to run. Without another thought, Kel nudged Peachblossom to their mark and took a new lance. Distractedly, she urged her horse forward.
Next she knew, Kel was seeing blue and clouds just before she hit the ground. Everything hurt. And gods curse Dom with his flirtatious eyes and talk of kisses.
And then Domitan of Masbolle was helping her sit up. "I was sure I would be kissed today. Not bitten by a surly pony." Peachblossom sorted from nearby.
"Your talk of kissing is precisely what got me tossed!" Kel muttered as she slowly stood up. "Apples help, though."
When she looked up, Dom was standing closer than expected. "So... Kisses make the Yamani Lump flustered?"
Keladry blinked. It isn't kisses, she thought. It's the person speaking about them. And then he was closer and his mouth was drawn up in smirk again.
"But, you know, you never agreed to the terms of our bet." He looked at her through thick lashes. "You could change the stakes to something more preferable..."
With a small smile, Kel stepped closer. "Dom, you are still grooming my horse. But you can kiss me, too."
And he did.
