Title: Driven to Madness
Rating: G
For: Griff
Prompt: Kel as Jon's squire
Summary: In which Jon regrets his decision to make Keladry his squire.
Notes and Warnings: Not sure if this is what you wanted, but this idea stuck in my head and wouldn't let go. Also technically posted after midnight, but in my defence Mum brought the Hobbit 2 Extended Addition home.
The tent - though given its size, tent seemed to do the space a disservice - was filled with the quite chatter of Jonathan of Conte, King of Tortall, and his closest friends. However, with the arrival of dinner, the noise ground to a halt as Jonathan regarded his squire with a displeased expression.

The tent - though given its size, tent seemed to do the space a disservice - was filled with the quite chatter of Jonathan of Conte, King of Tortall, and his closest friends. However, with the arrival of dinner, the noise ground to a halt as Jonathan regarded his squire with a displeased expression.
"My food is cold," Jon said, frowning at the plate before him, and then at his server. Keladry of Mindelan looking levelly back at him, her face a mask of impassivity.
"I apologise, your majesty. Would you like me to bring you another plate?" she inquired, the picture of an obedient squire. Jon shook his head.
"This will do well enough. You are dismissed, Squire Keladry," he ordered, the picture of a stately monarch. This lasted precisely until the slim figure of his squire vanished of the the tent. At this point, he let out a groan and slumped forward onto the table. To think he'd ever though taking her as his squire was a sensible idea.
It had made sense at the time. His son was marrying a Yamani princess, so who better to have as his squire than Keladry of Mindelan, who had spent so of her life in the Yamani Islands. Of course, he hadn't taken into account an important factor - the extent of her loathing toward him.
All around, his friends - Gary, Raoul, and Alanna in particular, chuckled at the sight of their king in such a state. He lifted his head just enough to glare at his so-called friends.
"It's not amusing," he snapped. "I swear by the gods, I haven't had a warm meal this entire progress. And it's not just that. My armour squeaks every time I move, my stirrups are always too short, or too long," he took a swig of wine only to grimace. "And my wine is more water than alcohol."
There was a long moments silence, before the everyone in the room burst into laughter. Jon resumed his slumped expression, muttering under his breath about traitors to the crown. If his squire continued on this way - not that he could prove anything, of course - he'd go mad long before the progress ended.
