Title: In the Quiet Rating: G Prompt: #101: 'waldeinsamkeit' Summary: After fleeing Carthak, Arram finds himself alone in the forests of Tyra.
The quiet stretched around him, lingering, alive in its own right. It was something he’d forgotten, in all his years in Carthak; the way it felt to be alone with only trees and their gods around him. Dusk was falling and he didn’t dare light a fire, not with magic, but he found that he didn’t know how any other way, all the lessons of his grandparents before magic and etiquette had fled without him even noticing. Shadows stretched between the trees around him, multiplying as the sun sank further below the horizon. They crept ever closer to the small clearing where he sat, huddled under his cloak.
It had been easy to forget why he was running, even in the long hours spent hidden in the hold of the ship that brought him across the sea. The endless crash of waves, the creaking of the boards, the drone of sailors’ voices, it had all pinned Aram to the moment. Dwarved by the height of the trees around him, alone except for the endless stretch of forest, he felt something settle. The events of the past weeks were suddenly fixed in his heart, irrevocable, and something within him started to breathe again, unladen, other peoples’ expectations falling away, leaving Aram alone in the forest.
He reached out and began to arrange a firepit, old memories and whispered words guiding his hands.

This really captures the prompt, I think. I like your descriptions of how small Arram/Numair feels. It'd be interesting to hear more of your headcanon, if you have any, in this 'verse; I want to know how he got here!

ummmm, I do, sort of? I have a few fics here and there about this time-period, but they're not at all cohesive, so. Maybe I'll put it all together into something? I'm glad you liked this, anyway! <3

Mmm, I love the change in him in the second paragraph. I especially love the phrase, 'it had all pinned Arram to the moment.' Almost makes him feel like a butterfly pinned to a card. Anyway, this is really neat
