Title - He prances
Rating - G
For - hawksandfeathers
Prompt - #4 Daine and Numair AU
Summary - At a farmhouse in the modern day back of beyond why would a girl turn up at the front door with nothing but a pony?
Notes and warnings - I hope you like this, its not really romantic and it doesnt seem all that modern either. It sort of turned out to be a fun fic eccentuating Numairs dorky clown side.

Onua looked out the window, Numair was flouncing up from the paddock and she couldn’t help but notice the feed bucket was still full. Leaning out the window she shouted.
“Numair you forgetful peacock! You were feeding the horses?” His face transformed into confusion and then a light dawned.
“The horses!” he shouted and then turned to lope back down the hill. Onua shook her head and turned around and stopped for a moment. Was that a knock at the door, if it was it had been very light? She went to walk into the kitchen but heard it once more.
By the time she got to the door the knocking had grown in intensity, although by Onua’s standards the person wasn’t trying very hard. She opened the door quickly and almost had to catch the girl when she fell on her.
“Oh sorry ma’am! I didn’t mean it.” The girl jumped away and looked momentarily terrified. Onua stood there feeling confused for a few seconds, what was a young girl doing out here far away from a town. She was thin and dirty, like she had been on the road for a while, and behind her stood a pony. The girl waited uncomfortably while Onua looked her over.
“I’m terribly sorry to bother you ma’am I was just wondering if you could spare a room for the night, it looks like it might storm and I wanted to get Cloud under some shelter that’s all.”
Onua frowned slightly. “Well we do have room for you to stay and for your horse in the stables. But where is your family, aren’t you a bit young to be wandering the country with nothing but a horse?”
“My family is back that way, further back along the road and in the past.” She said in a tone that said she didn’t want to talk about it. “I’m headed towards the city, it’s just taking longer than I thought” she hesitated again before saying quickly. “My names Daine”
Right on cue just as Onua was about to tell the girl that law required her to report any runaways who tried to stay with them, Numair ambled up. He saw the girl and decided she must be a distant relative or something. He ran up and gave her a large hug before bowing like a performer.
“Who be this fair lady who has deigned to grace our presence” he proclaimed with a flourish of his hands.
Onua sighed and made a split second decision.
“Numair this is Daine, she’s staying with us for a few nights, and you can teach her how we run the farm. Daine I’m Onua and this is my younger brother Numair, he’s a scientist, forgetful and he prances.”
Daine smiled at Numair, “Well I guess that’s all I need to know to never take you seriously,” she turned to Onua “Thank you, you won’t regret it.”
Onua laughed and nodded towards Numair “If you can keep him amused you can stay as long as you like!”
