Title: Names
Rating: G
For: Kuno
Prompt: Neal and Yuki discussing baby-to-be
Summary: Naming a baby is always difficult, but it's particularly difficult when you're Yuki and Neal.
“What will we name the baby?”
“Takana.”
“It could be a boy, you know.”
“No. It’s a girl. Mothers know.”
“Whatever you say. Why Takana?”
“I always liked the sound of that name. On second thought, Peachblosson sounds -”
“Yuki! No!”
“You are sure?”
“Why would you even suggest naming my beautiful, cute, wonderful, sweet -”
“It could be a boy, you know.”
“Hey! You just said you were certain she was a girl! Besides, boys can be all that.”
“I believe the term is ‘handsome’.”
“Yuki, you’re being infuriating again.”
“I am pregnant.”
“How have you not stopped using that excuse?”
“Because it works.”
“Yeah, well, soon you won’t be pregnant anymore, and then what will you say?”
“I am your wife. Somebody has to do it.”
“Of course you have more. Besides, I already have Dom and Kel and Lerant constantly infuriating me. And Peachblossom.”
“Which is why our daughter should take that name.”
“How can you say that with a straight face? You’re as bad as Kel, with your Yamani face.”
“I hope I am worse. What about Alanna?”
“No. Why do you insist on selecting names to do with my tormentors?”
“You look so funny when I do.”
“Yuki, have I told you you’re infuriating?”
“Well, what do you want to name her?”
“Uh - uh -”
“How about ‘Shokel’?”
“I’m worried. What would that mean?”
“Small Kel.”
“No. I’d rather you name her ‘Aorta’ than that.”
“I thought Kel was your friend.”
“Mfmidkn.”
“I did not understand that.”
“But Kel’s a knight!”
“And?”
“Don’t look like that! I just…she’ll have enough pressure to be a knight as it is. I mean, look at her godparents. Did you hear about Alanna’s daughter, who ran away from home?”
“For once, you actually have reason. If you really want to name her ‘Aorta’, I suppose I will not protest.”
“I was joking! Do you know what the aorta is?”
“No, and I probably do not want to.”
“Yuki! It’s only the blood vessel that -”
“Neal! I never aspired to become a healer! We are naming children. Not body parts, or whatever else you are doing.”
“I suppose ‘Adrena’ is out, then?”
“Whatever bone that is, yes.”
“It’s short for the adrenal glands, actually.”
“A - adenal glands?”
“Adrenal. Don’t drop the r.”
“You see why we should not name our child that? I cannot even pronounce it. Something like ‘Adena’, at any rate. Or ‘Adenie’.”
“How about ‘Adenine’?”
“That…is actually a good name. The best you have come up with so far. Adenine the knight.”
“No! She’s going to go to university and be a healer!”
