Title: Rumor Has It
Rating: PG
Prompt: Rumor Has It
Summary: I wish I'd started the MPPC a lot earlier. I'd take a lot longer to edit these. >_> Anyhow, feedback and critique greatly appreciated! Dom and Kel meet up once the Own arrives back in Corus after a sudden and lengthy departure.
Balor's Needle was almost pitch black. The only source of light was a torch lit at it's base near the stairs. Kel waited near the torch, her hands secured behind her back as she leaned against the stone flag walls. Originally, she hadn't wanted to meet him in Balor's Needle – for her it was a place of unpleasant and uncomfortable memories – but after some reasoning she had to admit it was the perfect place to meet someone in private. Nobody ever came to Balor's Needle at this late hour. Not even the Watch. When they'd first planned it, he had actually wanted to go up the Needle, but Kel said no. Just because she was over her fear of heights didn't mean she liked them any better. If she didn't absolutely have to deal with them then she preferred not to.
Kel sighed. His sudden leave before their last planned rendezvous left her disappointed. Of course she wouldn't hold it against him. When duty called duty called. It just had such terrible timing. It was embarrassing how she pined for his touch when they were apart. She wasn't a teenager anymore!
But it was also comforting to know he admittedly felt the same.
Those strange mixtures of excitement and anxiety returned when word came that the Own had finally arrived back in Corus. She left a note for him in his room to meet her as she'd always done, but that old worry of being left waiting for naught crept back up into her chest as if to smother her. It was all too good to be true, she often told herself. If she braced herself then it wouldn't hurt as much in the end. What if she fell out of love with him the same way she had with Neal and Cleon? She'd have to break his heart. Just the idea of hurting him after everything they'd been through dismayed her.
A tall, shadowed figure appeared at the entrance. Kel backed out of the light just in case it wasn't who she wanted it to be. The figure walked in, hesitant every step. It whispered. “Kel?”
It is him, Kel thought. Relieved, she stepped back into the light.“Dom?”
Dom stepped into the light himself. He was dashing in a dark tunic and shaded shirt that Kel couldn't tell the color of in this particular lighting. A smile tugged at his lips when he saw her. She let him sweep her up into his embrace as they latched onto each other. Fully collected in his arms, Dom pressed his forehead against hers. “Rumor has it you're in bed with a lot of ladies these days.”
She grinned at him. “Rumor has it so are you.”
His eyes lit up with such warmth that Kel fought the urge to completely melt into him. “Rumors can be so convenient from time to time.” He brought starving lips down to hers. Kel braced herself against him as their lips danced together. She brought her hands up to run through his hair as he continued to keep her gladly captivated in his kiss. They parted only for air then brought their lips back together in a blind collision.
She tasted him as he breathed into her. He had that cider I like, she thought hazily. Teeth gently pulled at her bottom lip. His mouth left hers to plant kisses on her nose, cheeks, forehead and neck. When he smashed his lips back down on hers she almost stumbled.
Kel felt his hands go south on her then lift her off her feet to press her up against the wall. She wasn't sure she liked being lifted off her feet, but it was riveting all the same. Never had she imagined a man would ever pick her up off the ground. But that was Dom. Always surprising her.
The air around her stomach was suddenly cool.
Wait, what?
Kel forced her eyes open. Taking inventory of her clothes, she realized that her tunic had been unlaced and it was now being lifted up along with her shirt. She pulled her face away from his and looked down at him. The laces of his tunic had also been undone. Once she'd found her hands she realized that they were venturing underneath his shirt.
“Wait.” Kel panted. “We can't do that in here.”
“Sorry, sorry. You're right. ” Dom nodded, finally stopping long enough to catch his breathe. He grinned at her.“They'll start saying ghosts live in the Needle.”
Kel giggled as quietly as she could. She brought her forehead down to his. Looking into his eyes, she knew they were thinking the exact same thing.
Her hands clung tighter to his tunic as if it would prevent him from ever disappearing again. Kel closed her eyes as Dom, still holding her off the ground, gently nudged his nose against hers.
