Title: The First Day of the Rest of Your Life
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 534
Pairing: Alanna/Jonathan
Round/Fight: 3A
Summary: Alanna meets Jon’s friends, and maybe she did get the sanest of the bunch as a roommate… (ModAU)
Today, Alanna had been told when she had signed in as an official resident of the dorm, was the first day of the rest of her life.
Yippee. She had raised an eyebrow at the chipper tone of voice that the resident assistant had used, awkwardly waved, and then sidestepped around the rest of the line before she ducked down the hallway.
However, aside from Happy the RA, three other things had unhappily surprised Alanna. One was that her roommate, incidentally, was a guy. Jon, to be specific. Two: her room was on an all-guys floor, which would explain the Jon-is-your-roommate-but-seriously thing. Three: Jon’s group of friends thought the situation, and by extension, Alanna herself, was hilarious.
Gary had, apparently, laughed the entire way over after hanging up on Jon when Alanna’s new roommate had called him about the confusion. He currently hung in the doorway, glancing between the door tag that read “Alan”, and Alanna herself, before bursting into fresh gales of laughter. Three other guys squeezed through the door, pushing past Gary roughly before grabbing a seat on any available piece of furniture.
Unimpressed, Alanna lifted an eyebrow at Jon, who shrugged. “I tried to stop him, you heard me.”
“I heard nothing,” Alanna replied pertly. Jon half-heartedly flung a pillow at her head, and Alanna dodged. It hit the blonde guy instead.
“Wait, so are you seriously just going to go with this?” Gary asked incredulously, his own eyebrows making a beeline for his hairline and disappearing.
“He’s better than some sparkly pink princess chick,” Alanna gestured to Jon’s side of the room.
“She’s the one who’s dorm assignment got all messed up,” Jon pointed from his position lying on his bed.
“Did you know that there’s a dorm on campus that lets students request roommates of the opposite gender?” One of Jon’s friends asked the room at large. “It says so in the campus manual…”
“Are you seriously reading that, Alex?” The biggest guy tugged the pamphlet away from Alex.
Bemused, Alanna watched the chaos that had descended upon what she was already thinking of as her dorm room.
“You okay?” Jon asked her, rolling over onto his stomach and almost kicking Alex in the face.
“Yeah, sure everyone, make yourself at home,” Alanna waved a hand sarcastically. “Oh, wait.”
Gary laughed. “Do you know your way around campus yet, Alanna?”
“No,” Alanna scoffed, “Why, do you?”
“I took summer classes,” Gary announced.
Jon kicked at him, connecting solidly with his cousin’s shin. “Yeah, remedial ones,”
Alanna and Jon shared a smirk. “Well,” she challenged, “If you know so much about everything, you should share the knowledge.”
Gary drew himself up. “Fine, I will.” Jon and Alanna high fived.
Before being dragged out for points unknown, Alanna asked awkwardly, “So, you like, really don’t have a problem with everything?”
Jon shrugged. “I’ve lived with Gary. I figure I can do almost anything, now. Why, do you?”
Alanna grinned. “I have a twin brother. Bring it.”
She wasn’t sure about the rest of her life, but as first days go, today wasn’t turning out to be so bad.
