Title: Adjust
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 346
Pairing: Buri/Raoul
Round/Fight: 2B
Summary: Buri is adjusting.
It takes a while for Buri to adjust to married life. There's a certain novelty to it, she feels. It's amusing to be able to sleep late, or to stay in bed all day, instead of having to rush off with the Riders at the least bit of notice. When Evin takes over, she makes him promise to tell her about everything that happens with the riders. He laughs, and tells her to relax, he can manage. Raoul still spends plenty of days with the Own, but in the evenings he's all hers. They make the most of the time they have; going for walks or rides, eating together. Sometimes they swim together. Sometimes they don't leave their room at all.
She wakes in the night sometimes, and it takes a moment before she remembers that the man beside is her husband, and she loves him. Buri is used to sleeping alone, and the fact that Raoul shares a bed with her now throws her sometimes. One night, not long after their wedding, she nearly skewers him with the knife she keeps beside the bed. She's still afraid of the dark. But when her fear gets too much, or when she struggles to fall back asleep, he's there to calm her. He holds her against his chest, strokes her hair until she's sleeping again.
It's horrible, the first night he's away. She wakes in the night and reaches out for him, but he isn't there. She lays there, curled in a ball, sheets thrown all over the place. She wonders how she got so silly. Buri always considered herself to sensible, yet here she is, moping like a lovesick girlchild. It's ridiculous. But she can't help it.
When he returns, she runs out to meet him. One man has to stop his horse from trampling her as she rushes past. Raoul jumps down the moment his horse stops. He picks her up and spins her around, kisses her hands, her face, to the applause of the Own. It's two whole days before anyone sees them again.
