Title: Ready, Steady, Go Rating: PG Word Count: 257 Pairing: Buri/Raoul Round/Fight: 1D Summary: There's a first day for everyone, and they've known each other for years. Notes: I couldn't take the emptiness of the Arena anymore, so I gave these two some love!
Looking out over the stable yard, Buri took in the general chaos that awaited her. Shaggy ponies, just beginning to shed their heavy winter coats, stomped impatiently and stretched their necks out to nip at their neighbors, to the mixed frustration and amusement of the Riders that were attempting to tighten saddle girths and settle packs on their mount’s backs.
“Ready to head out?”
Looming behind her, Raoul of Goldenlake, current Knight-Commander of the King’s Own, eyed the scene before them.
“How’d a giant like you get so quiet?” Buri asked, neatly side stepping the question.
Grinning, Raoul slapped Buri’s shoulder. “You’ll do fine,” he said in a lower tone.
Buri sagged against the doorframe. “They’re so young,” she mentioned, pausing before she added softly, “…we had to replace so many after last year…”
Raoul studied her face for a moment. “The War took a lot out of all of us.” He agreed simply.
“Don’t you have your own troops to be terrorizing this time of the morning?” Buri asked, once the moment had passed. “Surely you’re not up at this hour just to reminisce with me.”
His laugh shook the floor slightly as he turned to leave. “What, and miss your first official season as Commander? It’s the last time that new uniform will be as clean as it is, anyway—“
Buri’s punch landed squarely on his bicep.
“Have fun with the greenies and their lovely little ponies,” Raoul waved as he disappeared.
Buri squared her shoulders. Time to get this chaos on the road.

I love these two so much, and you definitely did them justice. The support between them, the banter, and that understanding that comes between two close friends in similar situations; it was so calm and heart-warming, which is exactly what I like so much about their relationship.

I love the two of them bonding as commanders, and you really captured the ease that they have around each other. Just lovely.

I love the way you've done their friendship. It's not quite banter, but there's a very easy give-and-take rhythm to their conversation that reflects this friendship Also, commander-bonding! What's not to like? 'Time to get this chaos on the road.' *snorts* Oh, Buri, don't you mean, circus?
