Title: Poison in Your Mouth Rating: PG Word Count: 224 Pairing: Alanna/Jonathan Round/Fight: 1A Summary: Everyone knows about the Lioness’ famous temper. Inspired by lyrics from “Part of Me” by Katy Perry because apparently Katy is my Jon!tunes of choice.
Everyone knows about the Lioness’ famous temper.
…It’s not exactly a secret.
What is harder to keep under wraps, perhaps, is how easily Alanna fans the flames beneath the king’s temper, and how quick Jon is to respond.
Gary pauses in the hall, listening carefully.
Oak doors are not enough to dull the sound of voices completely, and he sighs. Ruefully, he looks to the pile of parchment, dripping with crests, seals, and ribbons that just came back from the City of the Gods. Perhaps now is not the opportune moment to—
Two steps closer and he can definitely hear the sounds of an argument from inside the king’s personal study.
No, not now at all.
Another step, just for curiosity’s sake, proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that this argument, in fact, has only just begun.
For a moment, Gary pretends as though he has two options. It’s a passing fancy, but one that he indulges in briefly. Reality, though, returns quickly and he’d rather not face the weeks of mute fury and stiff gaits between meetings that seem interminable, even though they remain, as always, achingly, brutally polite before the eyes of the nobility.
Tucking the newest treaties under his arm, Gary steels himself to moderate another argument.
(This time, he will duck when things begin to fly through the air.)

I have a feeling that Jon doesn't really express much anger - he's too *kingly* for that, and it's a lack of control - with the exception of Alanna. I love your inclusion of Gary. He's always a great foil.

Gary again! He really seems to get the Alanna and Jon dynamic. I love your last line again, of course, and your title is wonderfully suited to this pairing.

I like this from Gary's perspective, and it's very true: that Alanna and Jon are really good friends, but because of that, they also have a way of getting under each other's skin unlike anyone else.

I like the way you built this up - at first I thought Gary was about to eavesdrop - but I also feel sorry for him.
