Prompt: That Awkward Moment, #62
Summary: Neal, Gary, and Raoul have an awkward conversation.
Notes: Absurdly silly.
Neal, having newly arrived at court from the University, was being led on a tour of the palace. He objected, of course, insisting that every nook and cranny there was as familiar as the back of his hand. Baird insisted that he go, and so he rode between Sirs Gary and Raoul. Their boisterous talk was suffocating him; he sat uncomfortably on a piebald mare.
He shifted in the saddle coughed delicately. "Does my father know you're this silly?"
Gary and Raoul raised their eyebrows at each other. "An insolent Queenscove. What else is new?" Gary chuckled.
"Ha ha." Neal laughed shortly, edging his mare forward. Raoul and Gary had now moved to the topic of their old school days, and he was certain he didn't want to hear of that. He'd just spotted a rather interesting flower growing near the moss when the chatter behind him resumed.
"Say, Gary, remember that time when I bet you to kiss Lady Roxanne? The hellion," Raoul's voice boomed.
"Oh, that was horrible," Gary shuddered, upsetting his horse. "But," he grinned widely, "I won the bet."
"Excuse me," Neal said slowly, "Did you just say 'Lady Roxanne'? And," he added, turning to face the men behind him, "Are you drunk?" His voice was incredulously cold.
"Um," Gary started, reddening, "I suppose we stayed up too late last night."
Neal snorted. "Lady Roxanne is - "
"Your aunt, I know, I know," Raoul groaned. "Sorry."
Gary almost fell off his horse in mortification. He shoved Raoul in the side. "Great, Raoul," he whispered. "Baird will never let me use that special healing cream."
"You know," said Neal, kicking his horse to a trot, "I'll never look at you the same way again, Sir Gareth."
