Title: Typecast
Rating: PG
Team: PD/SS
Prompt: Differences
Word count: 218
Summary: Ahuda assigns her best pair to an important task...
Notes: I started re-reading Terrier, and in Mattes's entry at the beginning, he writes that he and Clary took down Bloody Jock and describes him...so of course with the whole targeted couples thing, my mind jumped to them getting him like this...
“What do you know of the Bloody Jock killer?”
Clary folded her arms and eyed Ahuda suspiciously. “We weren’t assigned to track him down.”
“I know. I’m asking what you know of him.” Ahuda’s beady eyes flicked between the pair of them.
Mattes shrugged. “He targets couples. On the streets, but back streets, and usually while they’re at a door to take them by surprise. Kills the man, kisses the woman, and then robs them of aught of value. Word round the kennel is that he’s solid built, dark haired, and carries a thick, long-bladed knife.”
“Good. The two of you are off duty until he’s caught. You’re going to pose as a couple to try to lure him into attacking.”
“Isn’t it somebody else’s turn?” demanded Clary. “We do more than our share of posing as a couple for sommat or other.”
Mattes chuckled. “It’s prolly that my lovely lady here –“ he tucked an arm around her for effect, “is one of the few mot Dogs raised with any sort of manners and class.” Clary shoved him away from her and glared.
Ahuda eyed them with amusement. “Actually, nobody quite wants to think about why, but the difference between you and the other pairs is that you’re by far the most convincing as a couple.”
