Title: A Puzzling Situation
Rating: G
Prompt: #6 Puzzles
Summary: Neal is puzzled by Kel’s behavior. (A companion piece to Smile)
...
Nealan of Queenscove loved puzzles. The mind benders that pushed his mighty brain power to even greater lengths. Even better was the rush of triumph when he solved one. That heady surge that came from the confirmation of his mighty abilities was what always kept him coming back for more.
So when his best friend’s demeanor suddenly changed, he knew that he could puzzle out the answer.
But three weeks later, he had to admit that he was stumped. Frustration and horror boiled in him at the atrocious but accurate description. Being referred to as even slightly like his old training master was, in his opinion, worse than his cousin’s infernal nickname.
The pieces just didn’t fit! Edges and insides mixed together in a higgly piggly fashion that confused even the ‘Great Sir Meathead’; what did the glow in her eyes have to do with the mysterious lack of “Eat your vegetables” issuing for her mouth. Or the annoyingly secretive look Neal sometimes caught glimpses of out the corner of his eye; and what was with her calling him ‘Meathead’ all the time now too! She was spending too much time with Dom for his liking and it was rubbing off on her....
Click. The last piece of the puzzle fit into place creating a picture so filled with horror that he could not be blamed for the shrill scream of terror nor the copious amounts of arm flailing that occurred in the after math of his new discovery.
