Title: Companionate Rating: G Prompt: 64-the one that got away Summary: Someone reflects on his marriage. A/N: I need to be mean to characters I actually dislike, rather than the ones I like. "'Gods, I love a tough woman,' [Saefas] admitted. 'You will have your work cut out for you with her,' Wyldon said with a chuckle." -Tamora Pierce, Lady Knight She'd learn to love him, he'd told her, told himself. First marriage, then love, as it had been for centuries. Except she hadn't. Sure, she was always his best friend, they had four wonderful daughters together, and he would freely admit that she taught him most of what he knew about hound breeding, but her feelings toward him had never become a romantic love. And he couldn't fault her for that, not at all. It didn’t mean it hurt any less. What a lucky man I am, he thought bitterly to himself, that my wife is the one that got away.
