Resizing Images (by PeroxidePirate)
For reference, the maximum allowed size for a banner/signature image here is 500 pixels wide or 150 pixels high. It's fine to use something smaller, or a few things with a total size not more than 500x150 pixels. If you want to use something that's originally bigger than the allowed size, you'll need to resize it to meet Goldenlake guidelines.
First go to your "album" on photobucket, which should show you all your photos. Above each one is a series of links, one of which says "edit." Click that, and it will take you to a (very slow-loading) page where you can actually edit the image.
From left to right, the first four icons at the top of that screen are Auto Fix, Fix Red Eye, Crop, and Resize. You probably want to either Crop or Resize your image.
If you want to crop your image (remove space around the edges that you don't need), do that first. Click on Crop, then click at the corner of the part of the image you want to keep (if that makes any sense) and drag a box to encompass everything that you want to keep. At the top, there will be a button for, "Crop Selected Area." Click that, and everything outside the box will disappear.
Resize is easier to use: you click it, and it will give you a dialogue box that lists the current dimensions of the image. There's also a checkbox next to the phrase, "Keep proportions." Generally you want that box checked, because it will keep your picture from stretching weirdly when you change the size.
The first text box inside the "resize" dialogue box is the width and the second one is the height. So to make the image 150 pixels high, click into the second box and type 150. The number in the other box will change automatically, keeping the proportions the same. Next click the "apply" button to the right of the text boxes, which will actually resize your image.
After that, at the bottom of the screen, you have three buttons: cancel, save a copy, and replace original. If you "save a copy," Photobucket will generate a new name for the smaller file, and you'll have both sizes available in your album (which means you'll have to keep track of which one you want to link to for use here & on other sites). You can "replace original" if you're not going to want the bigger version anymore.
I hope this helps! Feel free to reply with any other questions.
